Molecular Water Structural Changes Using Frequency - Applications Abundant, But How?

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Dear Fellow Creative Genius, it is good to make your acquaintance, and it is good to see your diverse interests and areas of personal study. And if I might, I'd like to engage your mind for a moment and could use some help on one of my 2500 new futuristic concepts. This one is needed now due to issues with glacier ice receding and water challenges, not to mention rising waters on some places on the planet, like Bangladesh or those areas built below sea level, which cannot withstand too much more rise in their regions.

So, here is my question to ONLY the most brilliant minds on this planet, and I would not be interested in hearing from anyone who is boxed into a certain scientific niche which disallows magical, innovative, imaginative, and genius level thought. So, here is the topic:

Any thoughts on using frequency schemes to change the molecular structure of water, along with carbon nano-tube materials to build fences, dams, gates to assist in creating vertical water features or building an Atlantis type city-state concept? Also using frequency-molecular manipulation to build scaffolding, or rebar type construction in glacier ice to hold it together using crisscross firing systems, almost like cross-fire desalination techniques? In that we could create very hard and strong 3D grids within the ice, made of ice itself to hold it together? Applications might be:

  1. Preventing Glacier Ice Breaks
  2. Towing a giant piece of ice to a harbor for fresh water
  3. Strengthening an Ice Hotel at the Pole
  4. Off Planet Colony using an ice igloo strategy
  5. Stop flooding
  6. Create stronger dams or protect the dams which are at crisis load
  7. Increase density to increase power component of ocean wave generation
  8. Building a shield against submarine attack
  9. Corralling fish farms without impacting environment
There are no doubt, many more applications of course, in fact, after I came up with this concept in the late 1990s, I had considered 100s. And so, I ask the world and its creative geniuses to please think on this and bring it forthwith, for the human race needs it now. You see, I know this is all possible, because we also know that snowflakes adapt by temperature and frequency, and that water has many properties that can be scientifically observed under various extreme circumstances. So, can we create that extreme circumstance and have all the benefits.

Indeed, perhaps you are one who you enjoys Sci Fi, and mythology, city building, environmental sustainability, you might be someone that could consider all this?

E-Learning Versus Traditional - Why Traditional Classroom Training Still Rules Over E-Learning

Saturday, January 29, 2011

The majority of all corporate and technical training is still done in the traditional classroom.

Hasn't e-learning replaced it already? One would think so from the many claims made by e-learning pundits but e-learning is getting the press because it is the new kid on the block. Okay, it is the newer kid on the block.

E-Learning has been around for a fair while and predictions of its rapid rise are finally coming true. We are seeing and will continue to see more and more e-learning options available to the learner. There are benefits to e-learning including both a reduction in travel expenses and a reduction in the actual delivery time. There is usually a time-saving of around 40% over the traditional classroom training.

One of the big boons to the recent growth of e-learning is the availability to have instructor-led webinars. While the classic page turners still exist with the only interaction being emailing a course facilitator, the webinar has enjoyed enormous success even while it takes away one of the advantages of e-learning in that the student is no longer learning at his own pace.

So with all the wonderful things that e-learning provides, why is almost 75% of all training done in the classroom using traditional methods.

One obvious reason comes from the word traditional. We do it because we have always done it. It has a history and we know it works. It is comfortable and both management and workers trust it. Many people still consider e-learning to be a fad and not 'real' training. As such, there is not always the buy-in from either employees or management in using e-learning.

Many people have had bad experience with e-learning because, well, there is a lot of bad e-learning courses out there. Oh sure, some classroom training is crap, also. It is traditional crap that we are familiar with already. We have an instructor right there in front of us to either blame, vent to, and try to nudge into turning the class around.

Having both the learner and the instructor/facilitator in the same room provides a level of trust and communication that we can't get from most webinars. We are community oriented and we prefer to actually gather together. E-learning does not allow the body language of the participant to be conveyed. In some cases, we aren't even sure there is a body on the other end of a webinar or that it is the body that is supposed to be there.

In the classroom, the instructor knows whether the student is bored or engaged. They see the confused look on the face as well as the eureka moment when the learner has learned.

The students see the instructor's body language as well. They see the hand gestures that signify whether this is really important or not. The tone and timber of the instructor's voice are not filtered by any limitations of the technology being used to transmit their voice. The classroom allows the instructor the most freedom in how he delivers the learning. He can play the room to bring out the best synergy from the participants. He can be up front delivering a PowerPoint presentation or right behind a student showing him where to click the mouse.

When technology fails, out comes the good old-fashioned flip chart and the Mr. Sketch pens. According to a survey conducted for the American Society of Training and Development, 45% of companies thinking of implementing e-learning solutions were concerned about the technical competency required.

There is a flexibility in the traditional classroom when changes need to be implemented. With technical training, procedures can change frequently with software and hardware revision. The training has to be revised as well. For e-learning, this can be a very costly and timely process involving new screen captures or creating new video. In the traditional classroom, new software and new procedures can be implemented immediately with an instructor just explaining the differences.

E-learning is making great inroads but people still prefer the comfort of an instructor led traditional classroom. In designing training courses, one can optimize both method by blending them and offer some parts of the learning through e-learning and then following up with traditional classroom training.

PA Training - How to Get Medical Experience

Friday, January 28, 2011

Plenty of people want to join the PA profession for its solid pay, meaningful work, and high demand. But in accepting you, a PA training program is taking a risk. PA school is tough, with an accelerated pace, complicated material, and people's lives on the line. To reduce the chances of admitting an unqualified student, most programs have some form of medical experience requirement that can range from 300 to 1000 hours. Even so, if you have little experience working with patients in a medical setting, you may do fine in school and make a great PA. Maybe you majored in biochemistry but have always worked in the lab. Or perhaps you are changing careers from something totally unrelated. So how does a sharp, motivated applicant fulfill the medical experience requirement? There are many ways, but here are four of the most efficient and useful paths to gaining relevant experience without spending years in the medical field. Number five is a reminder of hours you may already have but don't realize.

1. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). EMT courses are offered privately and at community colleges, and usually take one semester to complete. An EMT certification will prepare you to work in the medical field on an ambulance, or in other settings where basic emergency medical care may be needed, such as in hospital ERs, ambulance companies, shopping malls, and sports stadiums. It's important here to note that usually the certification is not enough by itself-you should plan on working in the field for a minimum of six months. The work doesn't pay a lot, but it will get you working with patients relatively quickly, and give you the chance to learn the basics of medicine.

2. Medical Assistant. Many doctors' offices employ uncertified personnel to greet patients, take vital signs, pull charts, and manage the needs of a busy medical practice. Sometimes these jobs will go to Certified Nursing Assistants (see CNAs below), but often they are trained on the job. This work won't give you an official credential, but like #1 above, it will get your hands on patients and teach you the basics.

3. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). CNAs work in many settings assisting in the daily care of patients. This can be great experience as long as you do it in a broad setting, such as a hospital, health clinic, or doctor's office where you will see a sufficient variety of patients. For this reason, you should avoid working in nursing homes and private homes where the patient diversity is minimal. CNA programs usually last from 2-6 weeks fulltime, and are offered at community colleges and the American Red Cross.

4. Medical Scribe. Scribes are frequently used in Emergency Rooms, where a limited number of physicians and PAs must care for many patients. The Scribe's job is to shadow the care providers and record patient exam findings, treatments given, labs to be ordered, etc. Think of them like the doctor's extra brain. If it sounds a bit like a secretary, it is, but it's more too. Scribes work closely with PAs and doctors and are an integral part of patient care. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must if you wish to work as a medical scribe.

5. Medical Interviewing. This is not a job per se, but a category of jobs that is often overlooked. Have you worked as a psychiatric technician/assistant, alcohol and drug counselor, marriage and family therapist, intake coordinator, patient registrar? These less "traditionally" medical jobs involve work with patients and you should get some credit for them. Many of these offer patient interview experience that can be valuable. Claim these as hours of experience unless specifically told by a program that you cannot.

Finally, remember to call or email with each school you plan on applying to, as program requirements vary significantly.

Paul Kubin, MS, MFT is a Marriage and Family Therapist and physician assistant student at UC Davis School of Medicine's physician assistant training program. His blog, My PA Training: Inside Physician Assistant Medicine, provides insights into the application process, and chronicles his challenges and triumphs as a student in one of the most competitive PA programs in the country. His blog can be found at http://www.mypatraining.com.

Computer Science Majors - Earning Degrees That Pay

Although the coursework is often difficult, C.S is a great program for those with the skills and passion needed to follow through and earn a degree in a fast growing field. This article will discuss majoring in computer science, what to expect, and salary and career info.

So What Does Majoring In Computer Science Cover?

Students who major in C.S can expect coursework that involves some of the following guidelines. Keep in mind that different colleges offer different coursework, and your program may differ.

  • Significant requirements for mathematics. Many C.S programs require students to have 20-30 hours of math as part of the major program. These often include high-level math classes like calculus and trigonometry.
  • Computer theory classes. These are normally hands-off lecture courses that cover computer history and theory, and introduce students to basic computer concepts.
  • Programming and language-specific courses. This normally makes up the bulk of the major coursework. These courses cover specific programming languages like Java, C#..NET languages, PHP, and more. These are typically lab and project based courses that require a lot of participation and programming to complete the class.
  • Database and/or data theory classes. Many comp sci classes require students to understand how web based and desktop applications interface with databases and data objects. These courses can be either lab and project based, or lecture and test based depending on what they cover. Expect to understand normalization, design of database schema and more.

Does Majoring In Computer Science Pay Off?

Absolutely. CS and other technical majors are truly degrees that pay. Students who earn a Bachelor's in Computer Science can expect average starting salaries of over $60,000. Students with other technical degrees often start in the mid $50,000 range. Furthermore, the positions are in high demand due to a shortage of students majoring in technical areas while technical growth at all companies is booming.

Conclusion

I hope that this article has provided some direction on what it takes to major in computer science, and why earning a degree in this area is a great way to ensure that you find a job when you finish school.

Why Study English in England?

Monday, January 24, 2011

Although often it's a long way to travel, many people find the most effective and enjoyable way to learn English is to learn to speak it whilst staying in England.

Surround sound

Consider the fact that if you're learning English in England, you'll be immersed in the language. Practically everyone you speak to will speak fluent English, everything you see and read will be in English and all TV and radio will be in English.

This is a very different experience to taking lessons of a few hours each week. Immersing yourself in a language is the easiest way to pick it up.

Branching out

College English Provides Extensive And Valuable Skills For Your Future

Friday, January 21, 2011

Through the course of your college career, you'll take a number of classes covering a variety of subjects. Some of these classes may prove to be more challenging than others. No matter what program path you decide to follow, all college students eventually end up taking an English composition class.

The threat of a looming English composition course doesn't need to be thought of as a dark cloud on the horizon of your scholastic future though. Many students psych themselves out about English. They worry they won't be good enough, that they aren't strong enough readers, and that doing so much writing in one semester is just too hard.

In fact, contrary to what seems like popular opinion, English composition classes aren't designed to make you fail. These classes are required because they foster a number of important skills students will find useful later on in college and later on in life. English composition classes will teach you so much more than just how to string together a few sentences, as long as you're willing to learn.

The number one skill many students derive from their English comp classes is an ability to read. Not in the sense of reading like they teach in elementary school. The students in these classes read selected literature and excerpts with specific goals in mind. You will learn how to extract complex ideas, make correlations, and understand symbolic meaning within a piece of writing. You will also learn to understand the underlying concepts an author intends to convey without saying them outright.

While developing reading comprehension skills, students will be asked on multiple occasions to write their own compositions. Although it may seem frustrating at first to have a paper returned with corrections, students will undoubtedly find their writing skills improve as the course continues. With practice, students will stop making the same grammar and writing mistakes in their compositions. This will only serve to help their future careers, scholastically and otherwise.

In conjunction with carefully fine-tuned reading and writing abilities, students will find an English composition class helps teach them how to express themselves. How many times have you received an e-mail from a boss and been confused as to the idea he or she was trying to convey? A composition class will help you avoid the pitfalls of becoming overly verbose or confusingly vague by helping you express yourself clearly and concisely. Your future professors, as well as your future employers, will appreciate this ability.

For the student who may feel adequately prepared without an English composition course, there is always the option to CLEP the course. CLEP - College Level Education program - costs less than $100 and allows you to earn college credit for a course as long as you pass with an adequate score. Most of the exams are multiple-choice, but also include mandatory essays.

Whether you take college English in its entirety or choose to CLEP it, the course is mandatory in a degree program for a reason. The ability to analyze writing and then in turn express your own ideas clearly and accurately is invaluable throughout your scholastic career and your professional future. You can also get a head start on this required course with a free online college class. English comp shouldn't be cause for dread or alarm - it's a great place to learn how to organize your thoughts and put them on paper.

Ideas About Hindi Learning

Thursday, January 20, 2011

"Do you want to learn Hindi?"

"Why Hindi?"

"It is important to speak with Indians."

"We can communicate with Indians in English, they speak English, don't they?"

This is an assumption about people's understanding on Hindi learning. Most people think Indians can speak English, so we don't need to learn Hindi to communicate with them. I think that is a terrible and side-minded idea. Why?

Why do Indian people want to speak with you in English and put their laguage aside? No, I don't think Indians will do like that. People always hope to speak their own language rather than a foreign one. Actually they can speak English, but they want you to learn their language rather that use English to speak with you. If you can do it, your conversation with them will become more and more wonderful and intimate.

But in reality not all the Indians can speak Hindi or English. I think the most proper way is to speak with those who speak English in English and those who talk in Hindi in Hindi. Certainly you need to learn Hindi of course. As for learning Hindi, you may choose software learning, in which Rosetta stone Hindi should be nice to approach. You know Rosetta Stone teaches you to learn one language with special features which make you feel comfortable.

Certainly you may choose to learn this language on the Internet, where you can find a great many sorts of materials that can help you to move forward. And if you are careful enough, you will see lots of other software programs there as well. Certainly you cannot use them even they give chances for you to try their qualities.

Besides, you will learn a lot about Indian culture and how people live there, which will help you more for you to learn this language in later years. You eyes will open wider and wider.

I am now living in Hawaii, and I like all the things about health protection, and learning for I have Rosetta Stone Polish to learn languages. And I want to share as many useful things as possible with all the people online.

These grants are only applicable for studying at the US. Students who cannot move to US or cannot stay there would not qualify for these grants. There are several other grant programs for international students.

To begin with there is The American Australian Association that gives fellowships to the Australians and the Americans for being able to conduct advanced research and also study in the United States and Australia. It must be remembered that getting these grants are not easy. Being eligible for grants does not mean you have achieved the grant. There is a lot of competition when it comes to getting grants.

International students from a few countries can be eligible for a Foreign Fullbright grant. With the help of these grants students can study or do their researches work in the US. This grant is sponsored by the US State Department. The grant requirements keep changing. The students who are eligible for the Fullbright Science and Technology Award can do their doctorate studies.

However this award is applicable only for selected fields such as biology, energy, engineering, mathematics, physics and public health. There are special scholarship programmes for women as well. One such example can be Zonta International. The main aim of Zonta International is to support women. One of t5he grants that this organization offers is for those women who are interested in business.

In order to get this grant, applicants will have to be undergraduate juniors or seniors. They will also have to show achievements in courses that are related to business. There is also another grant program that is known as the Young Women in Public Affairs Award. There are various other grants for international students. All that you have to do is do proper research on them.

If you have any questions or for more information please visit our website international student grants. Partners and Profits has been designed to help individuals learn what types are available for them to apply for and also how to get approved for these grants.

X-Ray Technician Schools: Learn How to Have a New Career Fast!

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

X-ray is a diagnosis system by which physicians or radiologists can get the idea of what is going on inside your body. Tumors, broken bones or detection pneumonia can be done with help of x-ray technology. So X-ray is highly used diagnosis method in the health care industry and as result the demand of qualified and efficient x-ray technicians is very high.

In order to be an x-ray technician or an x-ray technologist you have to get a quality training along with a certificate course or a further degree from a credited x-ray technician school. This training course or further degree usually takes less amount of time than traditional college degrees and usually takes 12 months to 48 months. After the successful completion of training from an x-ray technician school (which can be either a career college or a trade school or a university) you will be needed additional training. This additional training is generally completed by a doing internship in a hospital or diagnostic centre or in a physician's office. It is very evident that x-ray technician schools are more focused on the training based programs rather than theory based. However, the course curriculum or x-ray tech education program covers the primary medical knowledge and terminology, radiology, use of equipments, patient care, etc. Anatomy, patient care, physiology, medical terminology, radiobiology, radiation physics, pathology and medical ethics are some of the usual courses studied by x-ray tech students.

At end of the formal training program from a reputed school, the x-ray technologists have to seat for an exam governed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) to become a certified technician. The schools from where you are graduating need to be ARRT-accredited, so before enrolling into an x-ray technician school, check about the accreditation. As a fresh graduate, an x-ray technician can join as an x-ray technologist in physician's office, hospitals or other patient care centers. Regular follow-up training and training in particular fields are necessary for this profession.

Recently a changed has occurred in this profession which is going to be implemented from January 2011 and from then every x-ray technologist will have to be recertified in every 10 years to renew their license validity.

The Evolution of the Spanish Language

Sunday, January 16, 2011

What is the third most used language in the world? It is the language of famous icons like Garcia Marquez, Picasso, and Cervantes. It is the mother tongue of Spain. The Spanish language or Castellano is definitely world-renowned and is used extensively by more than 330 million people in more than 21 countries around the globe. This is also a vital mode of communication in the business and political community.

Spain is one of the economic powers in Europe. And the language continues its spread in South American and North American countries and free traders. In the United States alone, the Hispanic citizens has increased by more than sixty percent in just ten years.

Although Spanish is the mother tongue of Spain there are also other dialects spoken like Galician in the North West area, Catalonian in the East area, and Basque in the North East part of Spain.

Where Did the Spanish Language Come From?

As a language of romance, its roots came from the Latin, Vulgar Latin to be exact. Regional variations started to develop when the Western Empire fell way back in the 5th century and the other Roman provinces were conquered by Germanic groups.

The exact time when the Spanish language was established was not really known. The first documents with the authentic look of having the spanish language written was found around the 12th century in the Castile area.

In 1479, Aragon and Castile were merged and the modern version of the Spanish dialect arose after the discovery of Columbus of America. The language used by Castile was then spread around the Peninsula and then in the 16th century, in the American populace. The first Spanish dictionary was notably published by Sebastian de Covarrubias in 1611.

Spanish Today

The year 1713 gave birth to the Real Academia Espaola. They ushered the new generation formalising Spanish grammar with the help of the growing Hispanic literary masterpieces. And since the Spanish dialect is very flexible, various literary styles stemmed from it. With the advent of the modern age, some alterations in the language was made but the mother tongue of Spain continued to stay alive.

Education For the 21st Century AKA The Hub Proposal

Creating a Hybrid Learning Community

This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States License.

What might a 21st-century community look in which students direct their own education? In this world, the following scenario could take place: a student, engrossed in his favorite video game, puts down his gaming console and decides that he has an innovative idea for a new game of his own. From the convenience of his home computer he signs on to his profile at his school website and posts a bulletin within the "projects" section of the school's online network. His bulletin states the reasons why his video game idea is innovative and what kind of people he needs to help him bring his idea to fruition. After a few hours, seven other students have shown an interest in his idea and want to join him in the endeavor. The intended critical mass of interested parties having been reached, they must now seek out the relevant information and processes to make the project happen.

The group is assigned a teacher/mentor that will aid them in facilitating the achievement of their goal. A meeting time is set and the interested parties meet up in a conference room located at the online school's Hub complex. The Hub Complex is a state of the art building that acts as a meeting ground for the physical aspects of project based learning. In some rooms there are students working on massive science projects while in other rooms students are studying the fine arts related to current cultural topics. The video game designing student has contacted fellow classmates in the carpool list, but due to no one traveling to the Hub at the time he had to travel via public transit.

With notes scribbled on whiteboards and paper, the student's initial idea is fleshed out. It is determined that computer programming, graphic design, and physics are crucial aspects of the forthcoming project and, while the students have some experience in graphic design, their first challenge is that they lack the requisite programming skills. The group decides to sign up for a programming session where other groups are learning the tools necessary to write video game code. A student with a strong interest in the visual aspect of the project works with a student from another group to walk through an online tutorial in game graphic design. The project continues with the mentor acting as consultant, ensuring that the students are not getting overwhelmed and are finding the resources they need. When the video game is completed, the students reflect with the mentor on what was the most difficult part of the project. It may be determined that the project would have gone much more smoothly if a tutorial on some particular facet of the process had been made available to them. This would have saved some time on trial and error and unnecessary difficulties. The group works to publish documentation wherein their reflections won't just benefit their own future project endeavors, but will also serve as an available resource to future student projects and other users around the world.

How do we achieve this vision while working to simultaneously ensure that our students are well educated and allowed to pursue their passions? Perhaps the Internet is the answer public education has been looking for. Over the past decade, online schools and universities have opened at radically increasing rates while many colleges are adopting some form of hybrid online/traditional classrooms to facilitate learning. In the traditional classroom, students interact with other students and teachers, an interaction which creates a relationship that can be treasured for a lifetime. Online lectures and textbooks are still lectures and textbooks, which can be very difficult and confusing. Without another person to help us and without challenging projects that require human interaction the online classroom will be devoid of the life naturally attained within the traditional classroom. Lectures and textbook based learning is why the current form of "online schooling" will never be completely successful. Project based learning with a human face to face component must be included in this new online paradigm in order to facilitate personal and meaningful engagement of students.

One of the principles that our public education system is founded on is the idea that a well-informed citizenry remain strong, free, constantly interactive and capable of diverse thinking. Educating to diverse communication standards (both new and old) is vital to strengthening the community of a multi-cultural society. It is becoming increasingly apparent as we move further into the twenty-first century that education should dovetail with rapidly evolving practices in contemporary communications. In fact, institutional policies are reacting to this demand across the United States. (1) Public education must be flexible enough to follow communities within its structure no matter where they exist. Online education becomes inevitable in this scenario because, as it has become the popular means of mass communication, it has also begun to supplant and augment the traditional loci of communities world-wide. The modern classroom has become the Internet, and vice-versa. Because of the limitless potential of human interaction made possible by the numerous technologies we find at our disposal in the twenty-first century, communities based on instantaneous communication have formed within a new frontier that exists worldwide. Public education, if it is to stay relevant to the needs of the modern community, needs to find its place at the forefront of this frontier.

Online communities have replaced geographical ones. While many are unable to name one of their neighbors, they connect daily with hundreds or thousands of like-minded people for various reasons. These communities are in place, yet education has not effectively found a way to harness these connections for meaningful learning-even while meaningful learning is taking place within them all along! As public educators work to discern and define the function of the K-12 classroom in this new era of communication, they must strive to meet the demands brought forth by new and ever-emerging technologies while still working to create a school that will-above and beyond all things-facilitate learning for the K-12 student. But moving towards a methodology which no longer focuses strictly on the "traditional" means of communication does not mean that teachers need to abandon their basic instinct, viz. to learn we need to interact physically with one another. The traditional concept of a school as being a place where students come together to learn in the same physical environment is not a concept that should be abandoned. Rather, public educators need to change their preconceptions of how and when students come together to learn so that their education can support this new type of technology driven classroom.

Since very early in American history, educators have worked to ensure that all students are prepared and well rounded. Every year more and more people are choosing to enter a college or university; choosing to go beyond their required education in order to receive training in areas about which they are passionate. Yet, in the last couple of decades we have seen technology explode onto the scene, permanently changing the way we live, interact, and learn. While schools have worked hard to ensure that students are equipped with the tools needed in today's society, we can always ask: is technology being used its fullest extent? The above scenario, in which students utilize available technologies to the fullest extent in order to complete a complex project, outlines a possible situation in which students, rather than simply making use of technology to absorb disjointed and only marginally useful facts, employ such technology to learn and develop within a tightly-knit community.

Is it possible to envision a world where an online student body is able to complete a project that they are interested in while still obtaining the skills and facts necessary to fall in line with the National Standards of Education? How can schools stay in touch with the world if they are not part of the mainstream student communities of the 21st century? All humans have a natural inclination towards learning; whether learning to walk, read a book, or to take a car apart and put it back together again. It is the responsibility of public educational institutions to mentor these natural motivations and to encourage a productive and collaborative society. Can this be successfully achieved and supported within the confines of a hybrid school? If public educators are to rise to the challenges of our times, the answer must invariably be, "yes."

The Internet has become the unofficial 21st century method for learning. Almost anything can be learned by simply watching a YouTube video or following along on someone else's blog. News is transmitted instantaneously throughout the world creating an almost unlimited supply of information for almost any need. However, when we look in the classroom, we find information continuing to be disseminated in the same way it has been for centuries. Where information comes out of the Internet like a waterfall, students are asked to sit for eight hours a day and move through information at a trickle. This is why public education needs to follow the community, especially when the community is obviously shouting that it knows where it wants to be.

So how do we tap into those communities? If there is one thing that has truly kept the fire of learning alive, it has been the library. Imagine a super-library, a kind of K-12 learning center that has been built to be alive and able to act a resource for an online community. A place that would support a kind of project-based learning that could be facilitated anywhere there was an Internet connection. This online school Hub would be filled with teachers and experts who could be present both physically present and virtually for students to interact with no matter where they are. This place would also serve as an easy meeting place for the physically interactive parts of project-based learning that are required of its online student body.

We propose that this Hub be the school that actively engages with the 21st century community structures. This high tech Hub facility will be a place where teachers no longer become the gatekeepers of a rigid grading system, but rather start acting as mentors and facilitators within a complex hive of student activity. Why this hub would be successful as a base for an online/virtual school is because it would enable what public education has been seeking to accomplish all along - it would allow students to naturally gravitate to the school out of the want for learning. The basic idea is that human beings learn while uncomfortable, i.e. in new situations where they are forced to be alert. If students were able to first engage with a school from a comfortable place it is our theory that these students would in turn be not only motivated to come to school they will be drawn to it. A "Hey, what's going on here?" attitude will be fostered when a student is able to observe the classroom before entering it.

It is of our opinion that if a High School were to utilize new technologies to expand the classroom and support its communication between all parties involved the result would be a class that is no longer confined by the walls of one room. The classroom could then become earth and the world we live in would become the teacher. This "free from physical constraints" classroom would be populated with students who are able to communicate anywhere that they can receive Internet bandwidth. Projects could take place in the African bush or in a coffee shop in Bern, Switzerland.

As we move into the future of learning the question of how to combine truly personalized education and online learning becomes self-evident. There are many more conversations that must come up to answer this, but none can arise until we have a core understanding as a community of what we are trying to achieve and what we are trying to teach as educators.

Creating a Hybrid Learning Community

Computer Animation - Online Career Preparation Choices

Friday, January 14, 2011

Computer generated animations are used in a variety of mediums such as Internet websites, video games, and movies. Students that have a passion for computer technology and drawing can complete an online program in computer animation. Many schools provide students with the needed skills to step into a career.

Training can be pursued at the available associate's, bachelors, and master's degree level of education. Degree programs break down the computer technology used within the industry to prepare them for animation careers. Students can expect to first learn the basic foundation of pen to paper sketching as well as the technological side of the industry. A variety of programs can be entered online. Students can choose to gain an educational degree in computer animation, animation, and digital design. These three highly related areas give students the chance to study multimedia design and animation concepts from their own home.

An associate's degree program provides students with the skills to use computer software to generate 2-D and 3-D animations. Education will typically begin with traditional drawing techniques and then introduce students to the digital side of the field. Training covers the use of storytelling to help capture specific imagery used to generate animation. Possible career paths available for associate's degree holders may include:

  • Visual Effects Artists
  • Computer Game Designers

Illustration procedures, sculpting techniques, modeling concepts, and more are specific topics that students work through at the associate's degree level to prepare for a career.

A bachelor's degree program advances the skill level of students. Imagination, drawing, design, and directing are some common focal points inside a program. Online education requires students to have the appropriate computer programs to successfully complete the program. Adobe Photoshop is one program required by most schools. Coursework covers character modeling, design and more complex courses. Storyboard development, advanced 3-D animation, and scene depiction make up some advanced subjects that provide great career preparation. Some possible career options for graduates include:

  • 3-D Animators
  • Animation Scripters

Education trains students to understand the animation process from idea creation through post-production. Digital imaging, production studio, life drawing, and advanced modeling are some completed courses.

A wide range of advanced topics are covered when students seek advanced training. Masters degree programs prepare students to fully understand the technical and aesthetic components of the field. Students work through in depth topics that include art history, criticism, and experimentation. Most programs focus on giving students the understanding to fully use animation in a variety of mediums. Course time will be divided into classroom lectures and animation projects to help students prepare for advanced careers and managerial positions. Some career options can include:

  • Lead Illustrators
  • Animation Scripter's

Education last approximately two years and provides students with a highly concentrated curriculum. Advertisement design, human-computer interaction, visual theory, cartooning, and film production are some courses included in a typical master's degree program.

Students can gain the needed educational training by completing an accredited online degree program. Full accreditation is provided by agencies like the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, Commission on Accreditation ( http://nasad.arts-accredit.org/ ) to quality educational training programs. Choosing a specific program is the first step to entering a fast paced and technology driven career in computer animation.

Why You Should Have a Laptop in College

Thursday, January 13, 2011

When it comes to college school supplies, there aren't too many things you need. A lot of people say you'll need so much more than high school, but that's only if you're living in a dorm of course.

But really, you only need a few things. And really, you don't "need" them they are just a huge convenience to have them. For example, one thing I highly recommend is a laptop. Laptops have huge perks and can really help you out compared to a desktop! If you're thinking about getting one, let me tell you why you'd benefit from one.

Benefits of a college laptop:

When you have a laptop in college, you can type all your lecture notes instead of writing them all down. For some people this is a much faster way of taking notes. Also, your notes will be much more organized. You can organize them by folders, chapters, dates, etc. And once the class is over, you can delete them all. This saves paper while helping the environment.

Also, you can type up all your papers on your laptop, and print them at home or the library. Then, you can back it up by saving it on your computer just in case you lose your copy.

In college there is a lot of down time in between classes. During this time, you could be looking over your notes, writing your next paper, talking on AIM, e-mailing or even surfing Facebook for entertainment.

I personally think laptops are a huge convenience in college! They are great for when you have time to spare, and great for keeping all your school work, and lecture notes organized. Whether you get a laptop or netbook, they both have their perks and can be used for the same things!

College-Bound Mothers Often Need The Help Of Grants For Single Moms

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Nearly 13 million Americans are single parents and that number is steadily increasing as time progresses. Raising a family in a household with only one adult can be challenging to say the least. All One Needs to Know About English Language Teaching (ELT)

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

There are many countries where English is not the first language and the number of professionally trained English Teaching staff is limited. However, the residents are eager to master the language. This is why the demand of EFL or TEFL trained teachers is quite high in these nations. The countries where professionally certified English teachers are desired are UAE, Mexico, Japan and China.

It would be wrong to assume that these TEFL courses are hard to cover. A person needs to have a strong command over the grammar. The payments in these jobs are quite decent and moreover a TEFL teacher gets facilities like paid international travel. The global language schools in various nations have their rules for selecting foreign trained English teachers to impart English teaching in their countries.

As a matter of fact, Teaching English Abroad is a lucrative career option these days. The TEFL certification is the gateway to a new life. This certification is offered in various parts of Australia like Sidney, Adelaide, and Brisbane. However, the TESOL certification gives an edge in teaching English. It is offered by various TEFL training schools in the USA as well as TEFL training overseas.

One can also get a TEFL certification online. There are a number of websites that offer people with the required resources for teaching English in those countries where it is a second language. These online courses can be generally covered in half a year. However this is subject to the skill of a student. The certification is gradually becoming a de facto standard for qualifying in the ESL Jobs.

The TEFL Teachers from Australia, UK and North America usually enjoy higher recognition and reputation. The certificates awarded by UK based English institutions carry more weightage. One can expect to bag a plum English teaching job if he successfully completes a TEFL course having 120 hours duration. Even though there are institutes that offer short term and online courses it would be better to opt for a full fledged course as it can make the ESL job prospects widen up. It would be a nice idea to take the feedback of those people who have finished a course and got a teaching job thereafter.

The pay packages of TEFL tutors vary from one country to another. The experienced teachers draw more salary. However, on an average the compensation packages are satisfactory. Other factors like the economy of the country, density of population etc also matter.

However a person needs to keep in mind that since there is no regulatory body for this certification the chances of fraud can not be ruled out. Therefore a person should check the credentials of an institution, both online and offline, before enrolling for its English teaching training courses. While applying for jobs in a country a person should go through the terms and contracts carefully.

Education Is Not Keeping Pace With Future Needs

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Frank Ogden, the Canadian Futurist, said that if Rip Van Winkle had fallen asleep in the year 500 AD and not woken up until now, he would have noticed that everything had changed except for two things...the church and schools. Personally, I'd add the urge for procreation and the pursuit of power but let's put those aside. The church is the church. People generally need to believe that there is a greater force out there that can help them and the church in its many forms provides the platform for that.

The church is not a very progressive institution. That's a given. Neither, I'm afraid are schools. Schools are still teaching basically the same things they taught in the year 500. I agree with Frank on that. But look around you. Look at the speed at which technology is changing our world. Are schools keeping up? Hardly. Most learning is still done through textbooks. I grant you they often have audio-visual support now but consider those textbooks. A university text can easily cost more than $100. I've taught courses where the text was $150! The unfortunate thing is that a textbook takes three to five years to be developed and printed; support materials added and then for schools to fit it into their curricula. By that time, guess what? It is often obsolete! Too many things have happened in the past five years and even before the book hits the stands it needs revision.

Education needs to take off its rose-coloured glasses and look at what is happening in the world! Many of those in academia have never worked; never been in the workplace and have little real understanding of what is taking place. Universities and professors in their characteristically outmoded bowties continue to wander around hallowed corridors and sculpted campuses blissfully unaware of the needs of the real world. I know! I know! It's not their fault - it's the system. Bull droppings! Change begins with the individual and works its way up to where something can be done.

In Thailand, the government has been on about education reform since I first came here some 24 years ago. Do you know what has happened? Nothing significant that I can see. Lip service mostly. Continual changes in the government have not helped the situation any. In the past few months, the Ministry of Education decided that schools don't need to teach so much English (the international language of business and thus the future employers of all Thai students) so they've told all schools to cut back to three lessons per week. Is that a progressive step? You tell me!

I still remember when a then government here in the Kingdom decided that all schools should be computerized and so it put computers into every school. Laudable...except that 200 of those schools did not even have electricity, let alone any knowledge of computers or personnel capable of hooking them up. Ah well...the thought was there. Foresight, thinking and planning go together.

Consider also that many kids these days spend up to 80% of their time in front of either a TV or a computer screen. In fact, many kids are far more aware of what is really happening in the world than their parents are - let alone their teachers or professors. Are we taking advantage of the way children learn and like to learn these days? Are we watching and listening? Not nearly enough.

Our school in Chonburi Province in Thailand grew from one building, 12 teachers and about 100 students in 1967 to nine buildings, 200 teachers and 4000 students. Classrooms are for the most part non air-conditioned. Some do not even have a place to plug in a CD player. Oh, and there are 40-46 students in every class. However it has a sound lab and two new computer labs. Progress!

This year the school opened its new building for their Gifted Programme (students with GPA of 3.2 or better) and their planned English Programme. Classrooms are state-of-the-art. Each classroom has a teacher control computer, microphone and LCD projector All classrooms have air-con and five Internet-ready computers at the back of the room for students. Students are used to being visually stimulated by TV and practically all of them have computers in the home so visual lessons have more impact. Learning takes place faster and is retained longer. Books have their place but interactive, hands-on lessons are more motivating and interesting than a printed page. A science lab and library are also in the works. This is a school that is paying attention to reality from a technological standpoint. It seems to be in the minority.

All that is fine and dandy but the real question is: Are schools teaching students the skills for the jobs they will be going to in 5 -15 years or are they still teaching from the year 500? Why do we teach advanced math? Studies show that most girls by the age of 15 hate it and avoid it like the plague. Most boys would as well if they could.

Cheating has always been a no-no in schools. In Thailand, in a class of 45, perhaps three students will do their homework and the rest will copy off those three. It is easy to spot the same errors occurring in different notebooks. However, I sometimes take a contrarian view and wonder if we shouldn't be thinking of it as collaborative learning. Do we really need to know all the answers ourselves or is it enough to know where to find the solutions we need? Isn't that why businesses hire specialists and why teamwork is flaunted as the way to go? Surely advanced math is something that computers can do better and a lot faster than the average student brain? 95% of students will never use advanced math in their careers yet we still drill everybody senseless in algebra, trigonometry and calculus. Why, for heaven's sake? Well, that's what they taught in the year 500 and no one has told me about a change in the curriculum. Uh huh! Wouldn't it be better to teach students how to approach a problem and how to instruct the computer to work up the solution? I know...who is going to check the computer's work? Another person working on the same problem through a different computer.

Using a calculator instead of doing math was the first use of electronic (post-electric) technology in the classroom. Computers, cell phones, text messages can all contribute to what I referred to in an earlier paper as cyber-cheating. We all resist change but we should be looking at it from the point of view of where it is leading us and our students.

Some 20 years or so ago, I was at a lunch and Frank Ogden was the guest speaker. At the time, he was a futurist with the Ontario government. What he said was amazing and thought-provoking. I recall him talking about computer chips and silicone chips but that protein chips were the up-and-coming thing because they were actually alive.

He projected that the day would come when we would be able to swallow a pill and it would give us an instant command of whatever the subject was. Want to learn Italian, for example, swallow an Italian pill. Instantly you would be able to speak, read and write Italian. Want to become a brain surgeon or a car mechanic...well you get the idea. Think about the impact...

Proteomics is the study of proteins. There are several types of protein chips already being used in medicine to do things that are well beyond my understanding. Anyway, they do exist now as projected. I'm still waiting for the pills. But imagine...

If everyone had the ability to learn almost anything instantly, what would happen to schools? What would happen to teachers and professors? What would happen to bowtie salesmen? College football would become regional rather than school events. Of course everyone would be so good at playing football that...well, no, I don't know what would happen.

The gist of this is that education ministries, school boards and schools need to be paying more attention to what the needs of business will be in the future and teaching students accordingly; not blindly keep churning out lawyers and marketing specialists by the thousands. Computer people, systems people, healthcare professionals, eldercare specialists, aeronautical and spatial engineers are what we need more of - not to mention a handful of people who can figure out how to avoid the Earth being hit in 2036 by Apophis, that huge comet that's lumbering our way!

Students Thrive In Global Careers With Spanish Degrees

Friday, January 7, 2011

When many of us think about getting a degree in Spanish, we aren't really sure what we can do with that degree after graduation. A bit of exploration will turn up a host of different career paths for someone fluent in Spanish.

In terms of the types of degrees a student is able to achieve, they normally have two options. The student can earn either a bachelors degree or a masters degree in Spanish. A student right out of high school who is going to college will graduate with their bachelors degree. However, a student who already has a bachelors and is currently going to graduate school will come out with their masters in Spanish.

Once a student has graduated with their degree, they are able to find different types of jobs that are looking for someone specifically with their educational background. Many students who take Spanish end up teaching the language. This means they can teach it in their city or they can travel around the world and teach the language in various locations.

While teaching is a great career, there are other options for students who graduate with a Spanish degree. Students are also able to be an interrupter. This job can entail a student to travel, or can have them stationed at one particular spot for a full time position. Students in this type of career can really work for so many people and organizations.

If a student has a knack for writing, they can also get into a career where they need to translate words into Spanish for a certain publication. Today, there are many different translator options students can find, especially with all the different types of media outlets out there.

There are many possibilities for a student with a Spanish degree. There seem to be quite a few more students getting an education in a language, specifically in Spanish, because there are so many opportunities for them. Unlike years before, where it was almost unheard of for a student to really find work after graduating with their Spanish degree, today it is different.

Students who are interested in getting their degree can choose from doing it either in a classroom at an on-campus university or at home getting their degree online. Spanish degrees are offered both ways and can be beneficial to the student depending on what their daily schedule looks like. While many students feel learning on campus is the right option for them, many more appreciate the luxury of getting their degree at their own pace from an online college.

Spanish degrees can offer a student a wonderful career and can make them extremely happy in their line of work. Translator, interpreter, teacher - just to name a few - taking online classes for this degree will get you where you want to go. If you have a love for language and want to make a career out of it, getting your degree will really benefit you and the world around you.

Part Time Business MSc - Learning That Fully Complements the Demands of Working Life

Thursday, January 6, 2011

It can be difficult to take that big step and change the direction of your career, especially with the demands of having to earn a living and maintain a comfortable style of living. That is why so many people opt to study new and exciting degrees and Masters courses on a part-time basis, with learning that fully complements the demands of working life.

People with degrees earlier in their career may choose to refine their education with a Masters degree that can be completed with tutoring once or twice a week. Although business and finance is a particularly absorbing subject, part time business MSc courses have been developed in response to industry demand and in consultation with leading financial institutions and are designed to incorporate the best modules from portfolios of major business institutions.

London business schools provide innovative part time courses that allow postgraduates to tailor the core courses as well as their electives to their individual interests. Students are also provided with the opportunity to complete their part time course in as little as 18 months by taking extra electives in the first year of study.

Part time business MSc courses are highly relevant to professionals already working in the financial services sector, who are looking to further their learning. In particular, it would be highly attractive to those looking to extend their current responsibilities or to move into a brand new area such as portfolio management, security analysis, risk management, M & A or financial consultancy.

The structure of a part time Masters programme is specifically designed to meet the needs of busy working professionals already working in the finance sector. With evening tutorials available, students receive teaching and a learning environment that fully supports those striving to better themselves.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

There are millions of people that are currently attending college. We all have dreams and ambitions to someday be a doctor, a teacher, a businessman, or something else great and great paying. Although to get there, you must attend college for years and get yourself into a great amount of debt along the way.

It is said that the average college student has $23,000 worth in student loans! Not to mention, that is usually doubled when the student is going away to college and lives in a dorm during their college years. I don't care who you are, $23,000 is a lot to anyone! That could mean getting a nice, brand new car or perhaps a great down payment on your first home.

Yes, and then there is the scenario that you go to college all these years and you can't find a job. This is every college student's nightmare. After all the hours put into the college and all the money that you owe, it can definitely be stressful if you don't have the money to pay back your student loans all because now you can't find the job you once worked so hard for. Yes, this does happen, but thankfully there are more success stories than failures.

If you are a graduated college student that has racked up so much debt due to student loans and other things, and you are thinking about declaring bankruptcy, think again. A few years back, the laws had changed. People can declare bankruptcy due to things like too expensive of a home or a car, and they can simply get it taken away. But when it comes to an education, you can't just take away all your knowledge. Colleges and the credit companies would get robbed too many times if that were the issue.

So basically, it is almost a 99% guarantee that you will never be able to take away your student loans. The only way you can really get rid of them is to pay them just like everyone else. You wanted to go to college, the banks were nice enough to lend you the money, so the least you can do is pay them back.

My advice is to just keep searching for the job you worked so hard for, and to save up as much money as you can so that you can pay off your student loans once and for all!
