What Is the Best Way to Become a Doctor?

Friday, December 31, 2010

Today's education has become effective and more precise than earlier methods. Students have many choices to choose the best specialization. The study areas are wider. Likewise, we can experience many developments in medical education. It has improved to allow the non science students to study medicine. I would like to talk about the field of medicine now. I want to share the effective exam that helps the non science students to become a Doctor.

I am one of the non science students. GAMSAT provides wonderful opportunity for non science student to become a doctor. GAMSAT stands for Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test. It is a medical entrance exam conducts once in every year. ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) organizes this exam in Australia, UK and Ireland.

It helps the medical schools to select the best candidates to study medicine. It gives opportunity for the students from any major to become a doctor. Even ESL students can do medicine through this test.

The structure of GAMSAT:

GAMSAT is a standardized exam. It tests your thinking ability and problem solving skills. GAMSAT has divided into three sections. Section 1 has questions related to humanities and social science. Section 2 has general essay writing questions and section 3 has questions related to Science. Questions in section 1 and 3 are in the form of multiple choice questions (MCQs). These MCQs are based on the passages, diagram and mathematical representations given.

It is not a knowledge based exam. You do not have to memorize any topics or definitions. The knowledge of basic concepts of those definitions would help you to answer the questions. Section 2 tests your English written communication skills.

It is all about testing the strength and thinking ability of your brain. GAMSAT always look for the smart candidates who will be able to take perfect decision using their subject knowledge. The question papers have designed based on this concept. So your preparation also should be based on the same concept. Proper diet and structured study plan shall help you to score well in GAMSAT. Also you can browse about the time management tips and additional resources for study time management on the internet.

There is no structured material for GAMSAT but ACER set a precised syllabus for this entrance exam. The syllabus is common for all the candidates. Non Science students can score well in section 1 and Science students can score well in section 3. Section 2 will be common for all the students.

Students who have completed their bachelor degree are eligible to write this exam. Ultimately, medical schools require candidates who could implement the subject knowledge effectively. This idea helps them to create the best doctors to the world.

GAMSAT is a gift for non science and ESL students. It shall get you to the great destination of studying medicine. Here is another chance to hold on the possibilities which you ignored before and switched over to non science. GAMSAT exam has created a great evolution in the medical field.

Mary Anita is a GAMSAT candidate. She is a freelance writer experienced writing articles related to GAMSAT and exam tips. She has shared information about the brain friendly GAMSAT preparation tips.

Advice to a Future Futurist About Forecasting Our Far Out Future

Thursday, December 30, 2010

What does it take to become a top-notched futurist? Well, there happens to be quite a difference of opinion when it comes to this question. Not long ago, a gentleman who'd served our nation in the armed forces and later got into the real estate building sector asked me this question. As a self-proclaimed Futurist I was flattered to be asked advice on this topic and so here is what I had to say:

Alright please indulge me for a moment as I give a short philosophical monologue to you on this topic:

Yes, actually I do have many suggestions to becoming the world's best futurist, however my advice will be other than that you might get from the WFS (World Futurist Society) and thus, will not be in the main-stream of thinking in that regard. You see, I am finding that those who call themselves Futurists are too busy congratulating themselves, and they do so each time another agrees with them, thus, have a meeting of the minds, one which binds them into a group-think situation within the very box they may claim to think around - does that make sense?

Indeed, I asked my future futurist acquaintance; so, would your futurist focus be on, would it be on construction or military tech, also paramount to our nation. Would you like to open a dialogue on "Future Fighting Force" potential eventualities and challenges we must be ready for in the future? If so, I'd like that very much and have lots of thoughts on this myself. I am very concerned with some of the de-funding of the Future Fighting Force Roadmaps I've read about in DOD, GAO, OMD documents. Indeed, I am pretty up on all the energy, construction, water filtration, and power generation concepts - and closely follow all military technologies as well.

I also told him "If you would like, I can forward the email newsletters I take so you can review them and allow that information to attach to your current knowledge." And I will extend that offer to anyone reading this article online, just tell me the industry sector, chances are I follow it as well, and can help you with more informational input.

Okay so, the question of "becoming" a Futurist of interest and with credibility is often one of marketing, by writing eBooks, books, papers, and doing interviews this helps on that front, also as much as you probably question all this new media (social networks) it "can" help if used correctly for a popular following. Even notables such as Kurzweil use these methods; tweets, email newsletters, blog posts, etc. If we look at his ground-swell we see the founding of organizations and the branding of an idea, or two, or in his case 6-8 combining them all; Singularity Concept.

Of course, Futurism w/branding and marketing does not make you "right" about the future, and really you do not have to always be right, sometimes it's better if you are wrong, but you warn of a potential future that is undesirable, thus, preventing it from happening, such as explaining a future risk in a direction of travel of a group, industry, society, or civilization. Unfortunately, you don't get much credit for those, "oh the woes of a genius," as those who solve problems tend to get the credit.

So, you need to have solutions to problems, and warn of future challenges too, and since humans don't listen often enough you can do both. That is to say prevent humans from destroying their communities, lives, and future, while also solving problems in the present period without them leading to the law of unintended consequences.

I offered to my acquaintance that if he would like to send me all his published papers, and articles, I would read them and then help him strategize on a marketing plan for himself and his drive forward (think flying car). Again that offer would go to anyone contacting me on becoming a futurist.

And I told my acquaintance; whatever you do, you must work to be accurate and be able to back up your arguments as you watch converging trends, and you have to be very careful to discharge the BS factor, PR, and political posturing as you set up your radar screen filter for this futurist endeavor.

If you are to become the "go-to" guy for questions on the future, one who companies, people, governments, and non-profits might call upon to make investment and policy decisions you are unfortunately going to have to have some bulls eye and several predictions come true to get notoriety, and/or market your personal brand and play a little bit of politics - "diplomacy is the art of letting others get your way" and that means people will come to you so you might verify their agenda, so without selling your soul you have to give them the reality of your findings without rubber stamping the junk science they have in tow, or their wishful thinking or dire disaster scare tactics.

You see, if you are knowledgeable and have all your facts to back you up, with endless examples to hold those your views, this builds reputation. When you study the newest technological advances and understand a good deal about many industries and sectors, it's really easy to see things that others don't. I told my acquaintance; okay for instance, you indicate that you are involved in construction management, real estate, and you have interests in clean water, sustainability, etc. Okay so, let's look there as an example;

"In the future homes will have carbon nano-tube, graphene sandwiched (composite roofs). They are super strong, lightweight in case of earthquake, don't burn, and manufacturing costs will come down. Also, you don't have to build super strong structures to hold the weight, lessening construction costs. Durability, plentiful element, bio-degradable, etc. Also they conduct electricity and can be solar, they can purify water as it drips off, and at night you can make them clear to let you sleep under the stars, and allow them to let in light by day, as directed and in the amount you want."

See that. Question is; why doesn't anyone else? They should. You should, you are in that business. Obviously, carbon nano-tubes, and graphene coatings, Bucky paper, etc. will be used for aircraft wings, race cars, blimps, and things which need to be light-weight and very strong, but why stop thinking there. Entrepreneurs in free-markets don't and they will find applications once it's available, and they will find ways to make it cost effective when it becomes possible. I mean look at plastic composite simulated wood decks, fences, etc.

So, a Futurist in that regard might announce this potential eventuality, perhaps get with some friends and file patents, and study up on how to make that all work, sell the idea, concept, or create a business. In fact, many do, and thus, drop off the Futurist Radar, because they see something and go do it, rather than just talk about it. This is a similar problem with academia, this is why entrepreneurial training for being a futurist is as or more important than degrees from college. Perhaps, why I am so good at it? Plus, being able to talk the language of business and entrepreneurs is really the key to take anything from concept to fruition, otherwise, "it's just talk," and we already have plenty of that, in fact, it's getting rather noisy.

Incidentally, I come up with 2-original thoughts per day, it's just a matter of thinking. I've trained myself to do this over decades, but anyone can, at least I believe that. My personal concepts are in all industries and human endeavors, and maybe this might be the type of futurist you will be, or maybe you will scan other industries, innovations and see how they will effect yours, in order to focus on a niche, and thus become an expert futurist in that sector. Since real estate, alternative energy, and construction deal with so many different sectors you'd have a better chance at really thinking beyond others due to your inherent On-the-Job-Training.

It's better for branding to be a futurist with a niche for marketing purposes. If you try to be the be-all-end-all of all industries and endeavors, few will take you seriously, even if you do spend your time working extremely hard to get it right. So, there is that, something I deal with actually.

Okay, let's open a dialogue on your chosen focus then?

The practice will be good for your Futurist Focus.

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

Pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice can be an adventurous endeavor for those who love the field. If you are interested in career opportunities such as being a police officer, detective, crime analyst, forensic psychologist, parole officer, crime scene investigator, CIA agent, and much more, then you probably want to obtain your degree in this field.

Criminal justice is a major for those who wish to better society by pursuing and rectifying criminal behavior in its various forms. Depending upon which aspect of this arena you are interested in, you could consider various tracks in which to obtain your degree. You could be the type of person who is more interested in dealing with evidence, in which case you would specialize in forensic science. For those who prefer helping adolescents and teens reach their potential, then juvenile justice could be a definite possibility.

If you're interested in going to law school, a criminal justice degree would be an excellent foundation for that program. Even without the goal of law school, this is a very versatile degree that increases your chances in the workforce. Beyond that, a degree in this area ensures better opportunities than what a certificate program could offer.

All degree programs try to prepare their students to successfully enter the workforce; this is no different for the criminal justice major. You'll be taking courses in punishment and corrections, theories of crime, psychology of crime, crime analysis, criminal procedures and investigations, forensics and much more. Such courses develop thoughtful and critical individuals who have an understanding of what it takes to perform their jobs effectively.

You can expect to gain many intriguing and practical experiences from a criminal justice curriculum. Most programs require the student to go through simulated situations as examples of what one can expect to encounter out in the field. They usually try to give you as many experiences as possible to prepare you for any eventuality once you do graduate from the program.

Students will also have the opportunity to intern at various facilities that utilize the criminal justice degree. You'll have the opportunity to employ the skills taught in the classroom to the real world; you'll be able to collect evidence, prepare timely reports, interview witnesses and suspects - whatever you are passionate about within the realm of criminal justice. Many employers prefer individuals who have these experiences already in their repertoire, so this is one advantage that can be added to a student's resume.

Criminal justice is more than just what you see on television. If you truly want to make a difference in preventing and minimizing crime throughout the United States, then obtaining a criminal justice degree will be a beneficial program for you and thus, for us as citizens.

Unfortunately, the world has individuals who commit acts to the detriment of human life. Laws are put in place to deter those with deviant aspirations, but regrettably that doesn't work nearly as often as it should. Pursuing a degree in criminal justice online is an admirable decision for those who seek to better society. The impact you can make for the good once you've obtained your online degree can change lives every day.

Foreign Language - 5 Ways to Make Your Learning Easier

Sunday, December 26, 2010

There are people who just love foreign languages and are good at them. For such folks learning a new language is a pleasure, they just tuck themselves in and enjoy every moment. But it can also happen that a person, while being good, for example, at maths, cannot learn a foreign language with ease. It becomes a problem, especially when you have to learn it for some reasons - working or personal.

However, there are some ways that can make studying of a new language more easy, natural and fun, spark your interest and prepare you for further, more serious learning.

1. Music

It's the simplest way. Try to look for some popular songs in the language you learn, find some you like most and upload them to your MP3-player. Finding a radio station can be useful too. After listening to the music you like for a while, you'll want to know what the lyrics mean, so you'll try to translate and thus learn some new words. Besides, listening continuously will make words settle down in you memory and they will be familiar when you see them elsewhere.

2. Movies

This method works almost as the one with music, but takes more time. First you can try watching movies in your native language with foreign subtitles, and as you become more confident, you can swap that by taking a movie in another language and adding subs in your own. You'll learn new words, grammar constructions and pronunciation, and you'll watch some good movies also. Just don't take only those meant for studying - they're supposed to keep your focused and rarely are relaxing. Such movies are good to watch at the lessons, not in your free time.

3. Chatting

Nowadays the world seems very small: you can have videochats with a guy from South Africa every day but at the same time know nothing about the one who lives next door. So just try to find someone whose native language is the one you're learning and just have some conversation with that person. Would be great to find someone who is studying your own native language too - you can help each other and maybe even become great friends.

If you're playing some MMORPG, like World of Warcraft, you already know what to do - find a guild with folks you need, set up a Ventrilo and just start raiding.

4. Hobby

Your hobby might prove useful in learning a foreign language too. First of all, it will help you to find those who have the same favorite pastime as you do; and second, you can learn more about your hobby and what it's like in another country. For example, if you like to cook, consider searching some new recipes in another language - not only will you learn how to cook a new dish, but you will also learn some new words while translating the recipe.

5. Blogging or twitting

With so many free blog services around you can make one for yourself within minutes. Try to blog in your new language. At first your posts will be short and simple, but as you learn, they'll become more detailed and interesting. You can start with a Twitter - it is a microblog service and every post there is no longer than an SMS message. Besides, people like when someone is learning their native language, so if you find some readers, they can encourage you and correct some mistakes too.

Those ways, easy though they seem, can become very handy. They don't require the concentration you need at the lesson, but their help is immense. I do hope it won't take you long to discover it yourself.

Electronic Revolution

Saturday, December 25, 2010

For a long time mechanical engineering was the solution to a lot of technical challenges. Using electronic solutions happens more ofter. Although mechanical engineering will never be substituted by electrical engineering, together they can produce better things.

Examples

The automotive industry has shown a lot of what electronics can do. As a driver would hit the brakes in a car without ABS, the car would be uncontrollable. Nowadays, systems like ABS and Brake Control decrease the braking distance of a car. Additional, the car is still controllable.

Home automation, or domotics, has been a profession since the last couple of years and are making buildings more energy efficient.

Reliability

As there can be mechanical breakdowns or jams, there can be electronic failures. Thing is that the knowledge of electronics is at a stage where risks can be contained.

Evolution

Also within the concept of electrical engineering things has changed. Where earlier a lot of maths had to be done for analog circuitry, now software engineers write the actual formulas and let the maths be done by a chip. For example in the audio world, DSP (digital sound processing) technology has been a major successor. There is a shift from analog to digital which introduced a new profession: Software Engineering.

Reasons

The reason why it took so long before electrical engineering revolutionized is the lack of knowledge about it. Along with this the reliability of electric systems were not as good as nowadays. With the products on the current market it becomes easier to develop new products.

The reason that electronic engineering is increasing is the possibility to produce easier and better.

Future

The public knowledge about electronics and the software engineering connected to it is increasing. This makes it easier to build more complex devices. These devices can assist humans in their daily life. Therefore the number of these devices will increase. The only thing that is standing in the way, is the interface between devices and humans. But this is a whole different study.

Jalink de Grote - fascinated about everything that has to do with electronic technology. Trying to share this fascination by writing articles. Wrote a website too about a specific device: Mini RC Helicopter

For a long time mechanical engineering was the solution to a lot of technical challenges. Using electronic solutions happens more ofter. Although mechanical engineering will never be substituted by electrical engineering, together they can produce better things.

Students Have Much To Offer With An Art Degree Online

Friday, December 24, 2010

Creativity in students takes many forms, some traditional and some avant-garde. What remains fairly constant is that those who wish to enter into this field will find themselves in a better position to be hired with an art degree.

Most of us think that students who get this degree will automatically be an art teacher. While that may be true for some, that is not always the case. Teaching art is a great career and many students who study this program will indeed end up teaching it since they are passionate about the subject, however, this is not the only direction someone can go.

Many art students graduate with their degree and end up having a successful career as an illustrator. This can mean they work in anything from illustrating books, sketching out fashion designs or even work as a cartoonist. An illustrator can have a very fun and rewarding job with almost limited possibilities with a talent like that.

Art therapy is also another excellent career a student can enter. What is art therapy, you might ask? Normally a student who goes into this profession will use their artwork as a form of therapy for patients or clients to help them feel emotionally better. A lot of times art therapy is used for people who are sick in the hospital who need some sort of emotional outlet.

Art degrees can be used both creatively and to help people, which is overall extremely rewarding. A student who graduates with this type of degree is able to put a passion that they love in the forms of entertaining people or helping them feel better when times are tough.

How does someone go about getting an art degree? There are different ways a student can go about this and many of us believe that a student interested in this degree will have to go to an art school. While many students do end up attending art schools, this is not the only option.

Students are also able to go to an on-campus university that not only specialized in art. Depending on what the student will study and what they are looking to do for a career can help decide where they might get the best education for their interest. There are also some online degrees a student is able to look into that can be beneficial to many who need some flexibility in their classes and who might feel more comfortable studying at home. More and more students with busy lives are choosing this option.

An art degree online can offer students a lot in terms of education and in their careers. There are plenty of options out there that will inspire an art student to do well and have a terrific career after graduation. There is no limit to what an art degree can bring a student and for the student wanting to take this even further, an online master in this field will open doors heretofore unrealized. If someone is passionate about art and want to make a career in it, they have so many excellent opportunities to choose from.

Top Psychological Reasons Why You May Lose Your College Years

Sunday, December 19, 2010

o his career and sometimes this creates a problem in his employment. I am going to describe you points which should be noted down and should be avoided at the college to help you stop from getting carried away.

Top psychological reasons why you get carried away at college

  1. Frequent changing of aim - I understand that you should not decide your aim or career direction too early, but i strongly feel that first year is the last year you shift a change in your career aim. What do you want to be in life and in what direction you should work should be made clear, right from the very first year at the college. After that remaining years you should toil constantly for that aim.
  2. Studying is old fashioned - Most of the time hard work in studying is considered old fashioned and students instead of hard working and focusing in their studies want to get carried away by crowd and always try to hide the fact that they studied today.Let others think what they think, but in order to show them that you are too smart and you get more marks by just touching the books and you don't need to work too hard for studying, you should not avoid being yourself. your friends will soon realize that they were wrong and you were right.
  3. Stay away from Looser mindset people -You should avoid people that keep cursing their fate and always emit a kind of negative energy. These are people who are frustrated for no reason at all. These people will convince you that you haven't got what you deserved and you should be at a better university, and thus you should not try more as all depends upon fate. Just keep a safe distance from them.

If you will keep these factors in mind there is no reason why you will not convert your college degree into a meaningful job.

Free Money For College Students

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Free Money? Sounds too good to be true, however, if you're preparing for and funding your education beyond high school, it's definitely worth looking into. This year, the Department of Education will provide more than $83 billion, which is about 60 percent of all student aid, to help millions of students and families pay for postsecondary education. Federal and state grants are one of the largest sources of direct student aid available. The advantage of grants, compared to loans, is that you don't have to pay the money back.

4 Major Types of Grants

1. Federal Pell Grants, the largest federal grant program, range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, and are based on need, as determined by the student's college of choice. Students must be pursuing their first undergraduate degree. Eligible colleges receive a fixed amount of money each year and when the money is gone, it's gone.
2. Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants, ranging from one hundred dollars to four thousand, are available to those students with exceptional need. To be considered, be sure to apply early.
3. State Grants are also based on need, but vary among states. Programs may be targeted to encourage study in certain fields. For more detail regarding specific programs in your state, go to your state's website for student aid.
4. Institutional Grants come directly from the colleges and can supplement federal or state grants when they're not enough. They're also used to attract a particular student.

New Grants

· Academic Competitiveness Grants are awarded to students in addition to the Pell Grant. It can provide up to $750 for the first year and up to $1,300 for the second year of undergraduate school for full-time students. There are several factors to determine eligibility, including grade point average.

· National SMART (Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent) Grants offer up to $4,000 for each of the third and fourth years of undergraduate study to full-time students who qualify.

To apply for federal aid, or for many state aid programs, students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student (FAFSA) form. Remember to apply as early as possible because the money does run out. The earliest you can submit your application for the next school year is January 1. The hassle of filling out so many forms and providing copies of your tax return is well worth the trouble and may help you avoid debt upon graduation. Fore more information, go to the Department of Education website at http://www.ed.gov, or Sallie Mae at http://www.salliemae.com.

A Psychology Course Online Explains The Essence Of Human Motivations

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Students can gain a lot of useful information by taking an introductory psychology course. Whether it's through a university or online school, the information given in this course can turn into very useful skills in the workforce when applied correctly. If you are interested in understanding how the mind is influenced by one's environment and vice versa this is the course to take to find out.

Psychology is an excellent subject that teaches individuals to examine every aspect of their lives. Psychology is a branch of learning that has developed several critical goals in regards to addressing various human experiences. It tries to describe, explain, predict, control and improve the human condition. An introduction to psychology will cover the basic principles behind these aims in a non-obvious way.

Description is the first step for identifying any particular situation accurately. Psychology professionals try to describe what they observe as objectively as they can in order to have a source of information to refer back to when conducting research or helping their patients. Describing something can require many elements, one of which is the research method, which will be summarized within an introduction to psychology course.

Like all sciences, psychology seeks to explain why something occurs and this is the second goal within the study of psychology. Although seeking to explain another individual's actions can be a tricky job, the science of psychology has developed several methods for professionals to do just that. In an introduction to psychology course, you will be acquainted with these various methods.

With an understanding of what took place and why it took place, scientists can move into the next phase of resolving or improving an issue and that stage is prediction. Based upon past actions, one can safely assume the potential future outcomes when in similar situations. For example, if one grows up in a household where bickering and arguing is the norm, when that person becomes an adult those traits will be ingrained in them and they are likely to take this same approach to relationships.

Control is the next phase of improving the human experience. Once you recognize the issue or problem, you can more readily address how to correct it. Psychological techniques are utilized in order to manage or change one's way of thinking and thus their actions, thereby changing the outcome of any given situation.

Improvement in one's life is hopefully the by-product of following these stages. Psychology professionals, usually those who work as counselors, follow these guidelines more stringently than other psychological careers that do not necessarily deal in personal interactions with patients. Generally speaking, these principles can be found overshadowing the body of work of anyone who obtains a career using psychology.

By taking an introductory course, colleges of psychology programs seek to impart tools for students to become more aware of themselves, as well as others, by keeping these psychological goals in mind. Describing, explaining, predicting, controlling and improving human interactions is the purpose for which psychology exists, so if these methods interest you, then begin your psychological expedition by taking a course online.

Educational degree programs are the best way for students to learn how to create digital media like videos, animations, websites, and much more. Interactive computer software is a main section of the field that needs to be learned prior to entering a career. The main attribute that is gained from interactive software is the editing capabilities. Other major areas of education center on teaching students how to use digital equipment such as camcorders to develop a product. Online education is a great way for students to utilize their resources and prepare for their desired career. The educational options include:

*Associates Degree Programs

A wide skill set is learned for students that complete an associate's degree program. Online training focuses on many areas of media, which develops a wide base of knowledge to step into a career or continue education. Training covers how to work with television production, online gaming, and more. The main areas of education at this introductory level include teaching students to develop video presentations, video games, and films. Procedures for editing, scriptwriting, and lighting are also learned. Media planning, web page design, and new media are some common courses that students complete online. Learning how to successfully work with the digital technology used within the field prepares students for a wide range of career positions. Students are able to step into professions that include becoming:

  • Videographers
  • Video Editors
  • Camera Operators

Further education at the bachelor's degree level develops a broader skill set that opens up more career possibilities. Education takes a step forward and teaches students more in depth skills. Audio production, design, video production, and sound editing are some major focal points inside an online bachelor's degree program. Education is project heavy, meaning students complete numerous digital media projects to prove their understanding of production techniques. Computer animation, digital photography, and graphic design are core courses that train students for the professional workplace. A large number of careers are available to students, that include being a:

  • Digital Artist
  • Website Content Developer
  • Graphic Designer

Further career preparation at the master's degree level focuses on training students to become managers. Advanced skills are gained as students are taught about the television, movie, and music industries. Management skills and technology capabilities drive this level of education. Online learning focuses on leadership and digital strategy to prepare students for multiple careers. Since students have a solid foundation in computer-based technology from their bachelor's degree training, a master's degree program takes a more centralized focus. Business courses are emphasized to teach students how to apply business procedures to the field. Accounting, finance, and marketing are some key areas studied. Possible careers include becoming:

  • Entertainment Managers
  • Film Producers

Career Services Professionals - Recklessly Running a $50m Business

Friday, December 10, 2010

I have had extensive dealings with all types of career services professionals and have, unfortunately for the students of the universities, discovered that about only 1 out of 20 actually understand their job and are effective at it. To be an asset to the students, there are things that career services professionals need to understand:

The Students Are Clients of Theirs - They Are Clients That Pay A Lot of Money
The cost of a college education, before loan interest can run up to nearly $250,000. This money is spent to ensure that sons and daughters of hard working people get educated and, thus can contribute to society in a meaningful way. To do this, the students need to begin by obtaining a career that is right for them and is conducive to them being successful. Seemingly, a lot of career professionals like to work 9 - 5 hours. Why not? In academics it's hard to get fired. It seems as if a lot of career services professionals expect some sort of accolade for a 6 o'clocker.

If a school has roughly 10,000 students and, on average each student is paying $50,000 (this number factors in full tuition students, scholarship and mixed) that career services professional is carrying a client revenue stream of $50,000,000. However, most career service professionals shrug off the fact that companies 30% of this size have 24hr. support. The career services employees work for the students and exist to obtain one goal and one goal only - making the career goals of their clients a reality.

This means even if the career services professional has to claw through the dirt to get it done. Why are they different from the business world? What gives them exemption from execution?

The Professors Are Clients of Theirs
Professors spend years preparing to be able to educate young minds by obtaining MBAs and PhDs and, thus inspire the students to go out into the world, make an impact and do their best to live ethical, productive lives. Therefore, in this scenario, the professors are the sales representatives that go out and find the "leads" only to have a 9 - 5 career services not close the account. Career services professionals need to be very proactive and very appreciative of every single professor within that university because that is where their "leads" come from. No closer likes subpar leads. No lead generator can work with a subpar closer. In any company, regardless of industry, subpar closers see only one thing: the door.

Unfortunately, this mentality and understanding only exists in 5% of today's university career centers. Moreover, to better service their clients (students and professors), the career services representatives need to go to each class, introduce themselves as the "account manager" who has personally been designated to work with the clients (students) throughout the account cycle that is 4 or 5 years in this case.

For any good account manager who was carrying a quota of $50,000,000 going to a class and, subsequently servicing the two forms of clients they have at a single time is a no brainer. Companies spend millions of dollars per year in R & D attempting to figure out how to be this effective. Have most career services personnel? Nope.

Budgets Are Budgets - They Must Make Due with the Money Given Being underfunded is not an excuse. Companies are under funded all of the time, however they make due and, upon doing a stellar job for their clients (the students in this case) their corporate division can make a strong argument as to why more revenue needs to be diverted to their team because their success and client execution needs more resources. They don't understand it's not the other way around. Produce, then complain.

They Have Competitors

If you were to ask 95% of career service professionals who their competition was, they would immediately refer to their football rival three states away. Their competition are the schools that are close by and that have students that go up against their students for jobs. This is their competition; it's not another college due to the fact that they can dunk a basketball.

Career services professionals need to stop spending so much time living off a win in a sport done by actual athletes that have no affiliation with them, but the name on a jersey. Instead, they should analyze how the athletes accomplish what they do and bring that model into the career center.

It's just known that career services professionals don't do competitive analysis. They don't follow up with companies that interview their competition to see how their students stacked up against the other schools. This should be done on a daily basis. Then, once this knowledge is obtained, the career services professionals need to use this information to better serve their clients.

Also, many career services professionals have not, in their professional career, done any competitive analysis on their competition's career websites. Thus, they can't serve their clients are best as possible because they don't know how the other teams write resumes, answer certain interview questions, approach the job hunt or just about any other aspect that could be deciphered with a 2 minute analysis.

They Are In Sales and Need to Make Outbound Calls
Unless a school is an Ivy-League institution, career center employees have to understand that the recruiting process is a 50 / 50. This entails making outbound calls to companies that are currently hiring or that are very reputable and are currently not looking at their students.

Most career service professionals never make outbound calls and, subsequently don't service their $50,000,000 worth of clientele to the fullest extent possible. Businesses, to sustain this revenue, fight tooth and nail to keep their clients satisfied. To a business, to ensure client satisfaction, getting their hands dirty with a few cold-calls and, subsequently starting a sales cycle to better the experience of their client is something they are more than willing to do. Actually, in most cases, they enjoy the challenge. This is not something that be done by someone who ducks out of the office at 5:30 because their TiVo is getting full.

It Is Their Fault If Students Don't Come to the Career Center
Students are not just magically going to appear in the career services center and a lot of career services professionals use this as an excuse. There are no excuses when carrying a $50,000,000 quota. You execute; you don't leave at 5, you don't get complacent with 20 people showing up for your resume speech, you go out and hunt.

Most career center professionals do a lackluster job of getting the students in their office. In this case, their clients (the professors) need them to do so. They have to close the deal, but don't want to come to terms with the fact that "sales" which is a bad word to most career services professionals is part of their job description. However, with most career centers, excuses are tossed around like pre-made pizza pies regarding this aspect of their job.

Also, many don't even think of the fact that there are psychology professors steps away who exist and could better help them understand as to why they are not getting the students in their office. Career service professionals, the majority of them, have access to hundreds of free consultants. How many companies can say this? How many career services professionals can say that they use their consultants?

The Career Website Should Contain No Less Than 100 Articles - Most Original
There are CEOs who run million dollar corporations and who, maybe don't type themselves, but write books. Presidents who run nations still find the time to write memoires. I manage 14 people and still write for marketing purposes. Most career service professionals, after 5 p.m. have no loyalty to the needs of their clients. It's as if they are a call center employee who jumps out of their seat the minute the clock ticks and their shift ends.

They don't act like an executive carrying this kind of quota. Their clients need resume help. How many resumes (actual samples) for each kind of graduate does the career services professionals have linked?

They Don't Understand Basic Management Skills
Instead of forming a team, it seems that most career services professionals like to be hung up on the fact that they have an "assistant." Instead of basic management 101 skills, these individuals like to make it known that they think of their assistant as only an assistant. When was the last time this "assistant" was given the autonomy to help carry out the aforementioned activities for the large account?

Are There Many Differences Between Man and Woman?

Thursday, December 9, 2010

To start with, the most obvious difference between sexes is the anatomy. Even male and female animals look quite different. It is, however, interesting to note that, while animals have so similar faces that it is hard to identify them individually; our individual faces are so different. We have so much difficulty in finding, even a lookalike. But then, the facial contour of man and woman is so different that even babies can identify a male and a female face. However, differences between sexes go much beyond anatomy.

Although we knew so much about men, with educational empowerment of not being there, we hardly knew about women. Even poets, who were a guide to the society, openly said that women were a mystery. Society only knew that women cyclically menstruated, produced babies, had a different anatomy, and were weak, emotional and less intelligent. Religious laws focused on those differences. It fitted very well in the concept of man working outside and women working at home.

Today, we have more or less invaded male and female bodies with all sorts of gadgets like injections, MRIs, CT scans, X-rays, US, etc. We have taken blood, bone and tissue samples and investigated them. While these have taken our differences from anatomy to histology to genes, they have also taken physiology to the blood parameters. Normal male and female blood parameters are not the same. Psychologists not only study adults, they even study kids and babies. Now they say that even new born babies are not clean slates, as was believed some time back. As if combining sexual revolution and science, even brain is said to be a sex organ. Once formed inside the womb with the help of hormones, it is said to be an unchangeable sex organ after birth.

It is amazing that, while concept of equality tries to ignore differences between the sexes and even 'forces' religionists to say 'women are equal but different', science brings about these unending number of differences. In addition, with women's empowerment, now even women are expressing their inner feelings coherently; only to increase the differences. In addition again, modern civilization has made so many amenities available to both sexes that use of those simply increases the differences.

Now the question is; what is the significance of these differences? Are they pointless or are they important? It is important to say that today; there is a huge competition between the sexes. Almost like a supermarket's slogan 'every little helps', these differences do help the one, who gains from it.

Not missing to note it, the book, 'Women's Power: Its Past, Its Present, Its Future:Femocracy', not only discusses more than 50 differences between sexes, it also highlights their implications relevant to a competitive world.

The writer is the author of the book 'Women's Power: Its Past, Its Present, Its Future: Femocracy' that is introduced at http://www.bastola.org. While talking about the past, present and future of mankind in the 150 subjects discussed, the book, as never before, uniquely empowers both sexes, the website http://www.bastola.org itself offers hope to less privileged women.

A Psychology Course May Open New Doors To Knowledge

Saturday, December 4, 2010

Since the earliest of times, people have wondered how our minds work. We often question other people's modes of thought or their decision-making process. This is one of the most fascinating things about the human race: the endless variety of difference in people's mental being. There are many reasons other than curiosity to study and understand the workings of the human mind. That is why so many colleges require an introduction to psychology as a core component of their graduation requirements.

Being able to have a basic knowledge of how people make decisions and formulate thought can be a key component of being successful in the business world. This skill may be especially useful in careers that have a large amount of interaction with other people, such as sales or marketing. An introduction to psychology course can help students get a basic understanding of human thought, behavior and emotion.

An intro to psychology class will cover a number of subjects regarding the basic organization of the field of psychology and its five fields of study. The course will likely begin with a basic overview of the field and its history, and why understanding basic psychology can be important and helpful in human relations. Most intro to psychology courses will introduce students to important people in the field, people like Sigmund Freud, and the connection of the body to the brain and its philosophical implications.

Since psychology is broken up into five fields of study, they will likely each be studied separately.
