Aerial Photography Using RC Helicopters

Sunday, October 31, 2010

Over the last year the use of remote control helicopters for aerial photography applications has taken a massive leap forward into the mainstream. This is mainly due to more exposure in the press and thus more people knowing what is possible. The basic technology has actually been available for a while now, although recently it has become cheaper, more reliable and with a few new innovations, much safer.

So how can you go about getting your own aerial photography rig in the air? There are three main elements to consider:

* The helicopter airframe you wish to use.
* The camera gimbal, control and viewing system.
* Stabilisation and autopilot technology.

The best way to decide what remote controlled helicopter to use for your aerial photography project is to first decide what camera or camera weight you would like to use. If you decide to go for a budget option with a small point-and-shoot, then you can get away with a smaller helicopter to lift the weight. However if you want to go all out with DSLR aerial photography, then you will need a larger helicopter, at least a 600-class to lift the required weight. Stick with electric motors the benefits being less vibration and noise. The helicopter should be of a good build quality, being able to endure heavy lifting, and then modified to your requirements, the Align and Maxi Joker series are a popular choice.

Once you have a helicopter ready to go, make sure you can fly it comfortably. Then you can look at the best way to mount your camera system - in front or under slung. Both will work better in different situations, however I prefer a front mounted system, as this is easier to isolate from vibration, and allows a better angle for filming. The weight can easily be offset by mounting the batteries below the tail. Vibration isolation is very important; it is most certainly worth buying a more expensive mount that does a better job of this. Control can be achieved through a second radio system (and a second operator is recommended). Controlling pan, tilt, roll, shutter and many other functions is possible as well as video down links so you can see and frame you shots from the ground.

Flight stabilisation for remote controlled helicopters has moved forward very quickly recently, with great new innovations as well as military UAV technology making its way into the commercial market. I would recommend at least a basic system, as it will provide a much more stable platform to shoot from. If you are an experienced pilot, this will be enough. However if your budget can accommodate the outlay, there are autopilot systems capable of flying your aerial photography helicopter with no manual input via pre-programmed GPS waypoints. Safety is also a great benefit of these systems, from holding the helicopter stable if communication is lost, to returning it to its take-off point automatically with the more advanced systems.

A final word must be said about insurance and permission to conduct aerial work within the UK. So far as I know there is no equipment cover available for small unmanned aerial photography vehicles in the UK, there is however cover available for public liability and professional indemnity, both of which I recommend taking out. Finally the Civil Aviation Authority requires that any aerial work carried out in the UK has permission from them to do so. They are considered the leading body in this field and thus many other countries are following their approach.

Challenges in Teaching Sampling Theory to MBA Students

What is Statistics
Even though you may not have realized it, you probably have made some statistical statements in your everyday conversation or thinking. Statements like "I sleep for about eight hours per night on average" and "You are more likely to pass the exam if you start preparing earlier" are actually statistical in nature.

Statistics as a discipline is the development and application of methods to collect, analyze and interpret data. Modern statistical methods involve the design and analysis of experiments and surveys, the quantification of biological, social and scientific phenomenon and the application of statistical principles to understand more about the world around us.

Importance of Statistics in Management Studies

Statistics play an important role in business. A successful businessman must be very quick and accurate in decision making. He should know what his customers wants, what to produce and sell and in what quantities. Statistics helps businessman to plan production according to the taste of customers. The quality of the products can also be checked more efficiently by using statistical methods. So all the activities of the businessman are based on statistical information. He can make correct decisions about the location of business, marketing of the products, financial resources etc.

If we have an ambition to become Director of Research, or to become president, entrepreneur, or even TV star, we need to know something about statistics. In every field, every person apply statistics directly or indirectly.

Statistics is applied in all the major subjects of MBA such as Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, Financial Management etc.

What is Sampling Theory?
Suppose that, as the personnel director of a large bank, we need to write a report describing all the employees who have voluntarily left the company in last 10 years. We would have a difficult task locating all these thousands of people. They are not easily accessible. The best idea is to locate some of the employees who left the company in last 10 years, take representative sample from them and interview them in order to generalize the entire group. To determine the characteristics of the whole, we have to sample only a portion.

In statistics, we use the word population to refer not only to people but also to all items that have been chosen for study and the word sample to describe a portion chosen from the population.

Importance of Sampling
Taking a sample instead of conducting a census offers several advantages:

  1. Sample can save money and time
  2. For given resources, sample can broaden the scope of study
  3. Because the research process is sometimes destructive, the sample is used for research.
  4. If accessing the population is impossible, sample is the only option.

For example to test the quality of a fuse, to determine whether it is defective, it must be destroyed. To obtain a census of the quality of a lorry load of fuses, you have to destroy all of them. This is contrary to the purpose served by quality control testing. In this case, only a sample should be used to assess the quality of the fuses.

Challenges to teach sampling theory to MBA students -

  • Not all MBA students are from statistic background: More than 50 % students pursuing MBA are from non-stat's background. Teaching sampling theory to them is a very big challenge as it requires them to be clear with basic terms (like mean, variance etc.) included in the Sampling Theory.
  • Aptitude varies among the students: IQ level differs from student to student. Some students grasp the topic easily whereas some students take more time to understand the same topic.
  • Their goal of life is not mathematics or statistics: MBA students most commonly work in the fields like accounting, finance, human resource, marketing, sales etc. They do not work in the field of mathematics or statistics directly. However, to succeed in all the fields in which MBA's work, there is a requirement of knowledge of sampling theory.
  • Mathematics or Statistics need a huge practice and hence huge time: Sampling theory is a very vast topic and to understand it, there is a requirement of huge time.
  • Sampling theory includes hypothesis that require imagination: The most important part of sampling theory is hypothesis, which is used in almost every field (like marketing, human resource etc.) Therefore, MBA students should know how and when to use hypothesis. Hypothesis is an assumption that we make about the population parameter. Therefore, it requires imagination, which is very difficult to make them understand.

Approach to overcome this challenge

Classification of students in A, B, C category.

  • A category - Students from statistics background
  • B category - Students who are not from statistics background but are willing to learn it.
  • C category- Students who are not from statistics background and are not willing to learn it.

This will help the teacher to know that how much time they have to give to each category and what should be the approach of teaching. In this case, the students from the same category may possess same knowledge and same I.Q level and hence it is easy to make them understand the topic. For A category, introduction of the concept followed by some examples is enough. For B category, large number of examples should follow introduction of the concept. Give them home assignments for their well understanding. For C category, it is necessary to tell them the importance of sampling theory in various fields to arouse their interest. Then introduce the concept, give them some practical examples followed by home assignments.

Field assignments related to the topic: Theoretical approach of sampling theory is very vast and difficult. Field assignments will aid them in understanding how sampling theory can be used practically to make there work easy. This will also develop their interest in sampling. It will demonstrate the importance of avoiding biasness to obtain accurate results.

Practical examples: Sampling theory introduces methods for obtaining samples from finite populations and for conducting surveys. It helps in developing the understanding of key concepts of sampling theory.

Case study: Case studies are syntheses of real-life cases based upon data and research. It requires the students to isolate and think through the key issues involved against theory and the larger comparative environment. Students should identify appropriate strategies for the resolution of the 'case' and then recommend for the best resolution. The cases motivate students to learn this theory and they provide a meaningful framework for the theoretical material. Solving a case gives the student experience with how sampling can be used to answer scientific questions, and it helps the students to develop skills in statistical thinking.

Conclusion
Sampling theory is a very important topic for MBA students. Therefore, they should not neglect it considering that they will get rid of it in specialization courses. Teachers should give more emphasis on the students who are not from stat's background. If we teach sampling theory by giving practical examples, field assignments and case studies, students can understand it properly and can apply it practically wherever it is needed.

An Unusual Look on Learning Kanji

Friday, October 29, 2010

Learning kanji may be really challenging, and there are times when you just have no time or energy to learn them well. In this article I will suggest some ways to help you learn and memorize kanji in your free time and without taking that much effort. I'm learning Japanese language myself, but I think that my advice can work for Chinese hieroglyphs also.

The main idea is to make you remember kanji whether you want it or not by using the so-called 'involuntary memorizing' method - it's when you remember things without putting any efforts into it.

If you look around, you will most certainly see some places which you rest your eyes upon every day. You don't usually notice those places because you don't use them, but they can prove to be a great help in learning those stubborn kanji.

1. Wall in your bathroom

There are special pens and markers meant for kids to draw on bathroom walls. Those markers are of bright beautiful colors, they're easily washed away and I think it's a really good idea to get yourself a pack and practice writing kanji when you're relaxing in the bathtub. Not only will it help you to have some fun and relax even more, but you'll also remember the number and the order of strokes. Use different colors for different kanji, for example, green for those related to plants, red for animal-related ones; or use a different color for the radical - whatever you can come up with. This way of remembering and practicing kanji will never be boring or tiresome.

2. Kitchen

You can also use the same bathtub markers to draw some kanji around your kitchen: in front of the sink so you see them when washing up; or on the wall to look at when cutting and mixing, even on the fridge. You can also place some sticky notes with kanji around - the main idea is to occupy the space where you're gonna stare aimlessly for some time. Try to mark the shelves in your fridge with appropriate kanji: fruit, vegetables, eggs, etc; or draw some big kanji on milk, juice or other packages.

3. Mirror

No matter where it is: in your bedroom or in your bathroom, your mirror can certainly help you with studies. If you draw some kanji on it with erasable markers or just on sticky notes, you're gonna glance over them every time you make your hair, brush teeth or shave - and you will involuntary memorize those kanji.

4. Computer

That's one big helper. I'm sure you are already using your computer for learning Japanese (or Chinese): there are online dictionaries, kanji practicing software, websites and printable worksheets, but now we are going to use the space that has never been used before.

Whether you have a laptop or a desktop, you can draw some kanji or place some stickers with them on the keyboard, monitor edges and peripherals. You don't always stay at the computer working hard or looking into the screen, do you? Sometimes you just wait for a page to load or someone answer you in IM, or just dawdle pointlessly... So, much like with the mirror above: if in such moments you glance over some kanji, they will be involuntary memorized without you even noticing. It's not a lesson, you won't have to learn them by heart, but mere having them around will have its effect.

5. Nightstand

Many of us spend some moments just lying in bed with open eyes, either before falling asleep or getting up. The side of your nightstand or the wall near your bed can hold some kanji for you also - they're gonna work just the same, by simply being around and catch your eyes now and then.

I'm sure you can find much more places for kanji around you, depending on the place you live in, your lifestyle and hobbies. You just need to use the space that is never used, and let your memory to do the work for you.

As for the kanji you should place around, I think you need to think about it yourself. They can either be those related to the place (kitchen objects, furniture names, home appliances, etc), or those you need for the next test or exam, or even those from the joyo list - any kanji that you need to know, but not always have time and energy to learn them.

The ways described in this article may seem unusual, but such ways of learning often prove to have the best effect than plain cramming. Just keep in mind that such ways need time, so the sooner you start placing kanji around you, and the longer they stay in those unused places, the better.

READ MORE - An Unusual Look on Learning Kanji

Online College Courses - Is It for You?

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Higher education has now tapped the power and accessibility of the internet to offer online college courses and this fact is being taken advantage of by more and more students nowadays. However, online college courses may not always fit everyone. Some students are more capable of learning when they work in a structured learning environment or independent learning is just something that is not the best fit for their lifestyle. If you are considering online college courses but not pretty sure if it is really for you, then here are some things that you might want to consider:

While online courses offer time flexibility, you should be able to understand that there are a few times that you have to be in front of the computer. You need to have the proper discipline to maintain a good academic standing and to finish your course work, assignments, research or any other requirements on time. This is a huge challenge for people who have been so used to procrastinating things that they would have finished today but didn't. Remember, online courses require that you work around good time management skills in order for you to perform your job well as a student and as an employee or mother (whichever applies).

Since everything is done online, do not expect to meet your professor face to face at one point or another. Some students prefer that they have actual or personal interaction with their professors but there are students who can totally live without it. If you are pretty sure that you can live with this arrangement, then you can definitely survive online college courses.

There is also very little or no interaction with your fellow students or classmates. Again, there are people who are more comfortable learning in their own room, wearing only their pyjamas while there are people who learn better when they are inside the classroom setting. You have to know which ones you prefer because with online courses, your classroom would be a chat room where you, your classmates and your professor can exchange ideas about reading assignments that are provided to you before the actual "meeting."

While online college courses are generally accepted by employers, you may experience a little difficulty if you plan to transfer your online course into a future program of study. Online college course credits may be a little harder to transfer than "traditional college credits" so if you are planning to transfer at some point, you need to check with your school if their credits can be transferred.

You can proceed further by reading about online college courses or joining the discussions at the college forum.

Yet Another College Savings Tips

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

One of the greatest obstacles after high school is the money needed to support college. These days, money draws the line between those who will have a degree after four years from those who will drop off. It's no denying that the cost of college education is rising up each year with no clear indications of stopping for the last time. While some countries do support sending kids to college, unfortunately in America, you'll have to do it on your own.

In line with that, we've managed to uncover few things you can start right away to guarantee your kid goes to college and to finish his studies.

Get a 529 plan for your kids. Every state should have one established already to serve those who are interested in saving money for college. It's like paying for college in today's rate for tomorrow's price. 529 Plan is usually governed by your state or any educational institution mandated to enforce it. It's probably the safest way to ensure your kid's future; you'll have the money when you need it. Aside from tuition, it's also applicable for other needs as long as they're school related.

Investing

For students who are nearing college already with no or little previous savings made, perhaps the best thing left is to do some quick investments. You can try purchasing savings bonds and let the money grow in your account. The good thing about savings bonds is that you can delay paying the tuition after schooling. In the meantime, you can try availing for a student loan to pay off the upfront costs. Let the bonds sit for a while to earn interest.

Get a Part-time Job

There are many part-time job opportunities for students who want to work and study at the same time. Majority of the schools employ their own students to do some mundane tasks in exchange of tuition fee discounts. If researching isn't a problem, ask your school for special projects or something else they're currently running, which could help you reduce your tuition.

Early Savings

There's no real substitute of investing some money in the bank couple of years before you put them into good use. It doesn't really matter how small it is because eventually it will grow. You can also try investing in bond or CD, letting the bank manages your money to earn interest in return.

The pain of sending someone to college should not only be entrusted to parents but to their children as well. It's pointless to fret out because there are so many ways to reduce the cost of college tuition. Determination, patience and a bit of luck is all you need to find them.

Future Car Body Switch-Out Trading Scheme and Life Time Chassis Considered

Sunday, October 24, 2010

In the future car bodies will be made out of carbon nano-tube construction which will be 250 times stronger than steel (no shopping cart dents basically) and 50 times lighter in weight, which will lead to incredible fuel efficiency, or battery charge per mile and thus, also better performance too. This long-lasting carbon based material will also last for a long time, so rather than throwing the car away when you are done, just take off the body and trade it for the new body style of your choice.

The new buyer of that car body can simply have it repainted to their color choice and use it for as long as they like. Whereas the automakers may not like this scheme, because they rely on planned obsolescence, as new body styles to progress in popularity, thus, they can sell more cars - I guarantee our environment and our landfill operators will be quite thankful that we are not filling them up with rusted iron-oxide car bodies.

You see, people go through different stages of life, when you are young and single you want a sports car, and when you are married and have young children you want a minivan, and later you probably want an SUV. As you get much older all you want is a nice hybrid vehicle that goes from point A to point B and never breaks. You are not looking for something snazzy, or to impress anyone, you just want something simple to get you around town.

Since this is how society works, and how the lifecycle plays out with regards to automobile ownership, it only makes sense that we would go ahead and use such technologies and strategies in efficient ways which limit the waste, and save the consumer money. The robust drive-train and chassis could be upgraded as needed - and different gearing or transmission gears could be put into place or removed quickly. This would solve the problems for the need for fast acceleration for the sports car, or more torque and power for an SUV or minivan.

Those who need pickup trucks may wish the transmission to be geared lower, and perhaps add a couple of springs, and beefier brakes - maybe a tow hitch for the chassis. This would be really easy to do if your car would be a set of components and you just switched-out what you need or when you desired to change the body style as you get older. Please consider all this and this futurist topic.

Rent Textbooks and Save Money

Friday, October 22, 2010

Recently there have been a growing number of businesses on the Internet that offer students the option to rent textbooks. As any college student or parent of a college student knows, one of the largest expenses, after tuition, is the cost of textbooks. For a student purchasing new textbooks for each class, the cost per year can run into the thousands. The cost to rent textbooks is generally at least half of the purchase price.

Before making the decision to rent textbooks, students should carefully consider the benefits. With college costs rising rapidly each year, saving money is essential. Textbook rentals can save students a great deal of money over the course of their college career, in addition, there are other benefits for students who choose to rent a textbook. These include:

1. Renting From Home - Students can rent text books from the comfort and privacy of their own homes, with just a mouse click.
2. Free Shipping - The majority of businesses who carry rental textbooks offer free shipping to and from their place of business.
3. Large Stock - Many students have gone to their campus bookstore only to find that the textbook they need is out of stock. Businesses who rent text books have warehouses of the needed books, so students are never without.

Using rental textbooks also eliminates the hassle of trying to sell a used textbook at the end of the semester. Students have often been horrified to find that the textbooks on which they spent hundreds of dollars were bought back for pennies on the dollar. Students will be happy to find out that businesses that rent textbooks cheap also will buy back any old textbooks the students have laying around. Not only are these students able to rent textbooks cheap, they are also able to make a little money.

Another advantage for students who decide to rent a textbook is that most sites offer a 30 day money back guarantee. If a student wishes to drop a class or if the class is canceled, the student can then send the textbook back for a full refund.

Students who rent textbooks do need to remember that they must take good care of the books. They do not own the books and therefore any damages incurred will be charged back to them. Also, when renting a textbook for a particular class, students should ensure that they have the title of the book, the author of the book and the ISBN for the book. The ISBN is the International Standard Book Number. Because textbooks often have the same title, just different editions, having the ISBN ready and available when ordering ensures that the students receive the correct book.

Students who receive a rental textbook and decide that it is one that they wish to keep can generally purchase the textbook within 7-10 business days for the full price. This eliminates paying on-going rental fees. Students who do rent their textbooks need to make sure that they send the books back on time once the rental period has expired. Otherwise, they may incur some hefty rental fees. Students who wish to rent a textbook cheap should compare prices. Prices can vary from site to site, and students need to make sure that they deal with a reputable company.

Overall, for students who can take care of a textbook and will only need the textbook for one semester or quarter, renting a text book makes financial sense. They can order the book from home, take advantage of free shipping, and can be assured that they have access to 24 hour customer service.

Talking About English Writing

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Writing is always considered to be difficult. Even though a lot of people who can speak very fluently and wonderfully, they have great blocks once they pick up their pens to wrtie. This is the same to English writing.

For our native English speakers, maybe we think English is our mother tongue and we have really understood it. But once we take a pen or open a text on our computer, we will find how hard to get a right word. But actually we can develop our skills in this area.

First, read. You know, writing needs words. If you have no words stored in your brain, how could you start writing? And reading can make up for it. When you read, the good English language comes to your eyes instantly. You even don't need to remember words consciously, for you get very familiar with the written words while reading. And the more you read, the clearer you will find you have very strong feeling about English. At the same time you will get a few rules that are used to write beautiful passages. Certainly a lot of people may argue that they have accumulated enough words and have very strong sense about English, but they can't write well, either. This question can be explained also by reading. I mean they haven't read much. Another question is that written English slightly differs from spoken English and your strong sense about this language.

Second, think. Without thinking, without writing. If you have read a lot, you need to think, or even brood. Why? The reason is simple, for your writing pieces must have ideas or senses. Don't talk nonsense in any passage! In this case you should think carefully before you write. And to some extent, English writing appears boring and frightening. But never lose heart! You must have noticed that nearly all the renowned writers are all greater thinkers, like Shakespeare, Dickens, Henry James. They all thought a lot.

Third, practise. Practice makes perfect. This sentence will never get rusty. When you have read and brooded, what is now left for you is practise. You need to keep some amounts of writing in your daily life. You can write anything about your life whenever you catch the idea of taking something down.

By the way people may talk something about language learning. For instance, when people talk about Rosetta Stone English learning software, you don't need to go away. What I think about is you should stay and listen for a while, for at least English writing is part of English language.

Now I am doing a lot things about learning and language speaking. I like languages, for I hope to learn more about our world. Of course, I learn other other things as well for the rich of life. By the way I am learning with Rosetta Stone Spanish!

Why Save For Your Kid's College Fund?

Monday, October 18, 2010

If you're a parent and you're worrying how to send your kid to college, then you're not alone. The high cost of college education that is increasing each year is indeed bothersome. But guess what? That shouldn't be a big program after all because you can make use of loans, grants or scholarship program for your kids. However, while those options are good, the best way remains to start saving for your kid's college tuition right after he was born. As you can see, that's a whole lot of time to prepare!

Based on your financial capacity, you should be able to choose the best savings options available for you. For instance, if budget isn't too tight, investing on trust funds is a good choice. As your kid grows older, your savings will grow as well. Also, you will have a total control as to how the funds are being utilized or even hold the payout should the child decide college isn't on his priority list.

In addition, inquire at your local bank or any financial institutions near you if they provide service such as fund management that manages and grows your money in your behalf. The idea here is to let these experts invest your money for a certain period to stocks, bonds, or some other financial instruments. You will earn interest in return which should be ready by the time your child needs it for his college education.

For those who aren't financially blessed need not to worry about their child's education. Start small savings and eventually it will grow. Be vigilant for banks offering high interest rates if no withdrawals are made for a certain period or better yet, ask them if they offer college assurance plans.

Your child's college fund is only as effective as it gets if you update it periodically and to do that needs a bit of household budgeting to take place. You can use your savings to increase the size of the fund. Overtime, you'll have the money ready when he turns 18.

Don't limit yourself with your own savings to fund your kid's college education. Find affordable college educational loans you can put to good use. While still young, encourage your children to aim for scholarship grants. Many non-governmental organizations or private institutions support college funds to students having good grades. This alone can save you a considerable amount of money while teaching your kid diligence, perseverance and hard work, the aspects he will need to start his own life in the future.

How to Learn Spanish Verbs and Their Verb Tenses With 2 Easy Methods

Sunday, October 17, 2010

It is impossible to speak Spanish fluently or even become conversational unless you know how to learn Spanish verbs and their verb tenses. There are several tools that you can use to help you master learning Spanish verb tenses. In this article, we will look at 2 of them.

1. The Verbarrator

The Verbarrator software will not only help you in this area of Spanish grammar, the Verbarrator will also improve your pronunciation in Spanish. One of the greatest features of this software is that it will allow you to tailor you conjugation drills so that you can really hone in on the areas where you as the student needs the most improvement. For example, the student can hone-in on the 90 most practical action words.

The student also has the choice to use the Verbarrator software's "Spanish-to-English" mode to increase his or her listening comprehension of the target language. The student may also use the software's "English-to-Spanish" mode which will require the student to think in the target language on the spur of the moment. Students learning the European version of the language as opposed to the Latin American version of the language, will also be pleased to know that the software has a feature that will permit the student to turn on or off the "vosotros" form.

2. Home Made Flash Cards

This can be a very economical and effective way to learn Spanish verb tenses. Go to a stationary store and buy a pack of index cards. I recommend buying the cards in assorted colors. This way you can use a certain color for AR verbs, another for ER and a different color for IR.

On one side of the index card, you write the English verb in the tense that you wish to learn. On the other side of the index card, you write the action word fully conjugated in Spanish and in the same tense.

Serious Defects in Modern Democracy 4 - Deep Democracy

Saturday, October 16, 2010

What do we mean by the term Deep Democracy?

Deep Democracy developed as a political principle, in the 1980s, having first demonstrated its use in integrative psychotherapy. Unlike Classical representational and Direct Democracy, which focuses on majority rule, Deep Democracy suggests that all voices, states of awareness, and frameworks of reality are important, and are all needed to understand a more complete process of the political system.

In order to understand the complete process we pose the question, does democratic governance have to be global to be effective? Deep Democracy suggests this is the case in a number of ways. First, attitudes focus on the awareness of voices both central and bedazzling in a way that all voices and views are given the same degree of importance. Secondly, these principles are to be used on all organisations, groups as well as personal inner experience; people in conflict etc. Thirdly, humanity needs to experience Deep Democracy as a bedazzling process of flow, in which all actors on the stage are needed to create the play being observed. Democracy needs to be a dynamical system that considers human needs and responsibility at all scales and levels. It is reasonable to deduce from this that Deep Democracy is the only form of benevolent governance that can produce such a political reality.

Democracy has always been based on direct or representational majority rule. It has functioned as a flawed concept in individual nations and societies, since its Greek inception. The reason for these flaws is that democratic government has always been based on linear Euclidean geometrics and a similar hierarchical structure to that of Aristocratic rule. As Democracy embraces the right of free speech and freedom of the press, it is certainly by far the fairest of all political systems, yet, as pointed out this articles, it still has many serious defects.

Free speech and freedom of the press are important, but without Deep Democracy, they can become abusive forces of tyranny, unrelated to emotional and social realities. According to Deep Democracy principles, in representative democratic systems, people often ignore the need for relationship between parties using free speech. Both parties, those who champion for free speech, and those who champion for limitations in the interests of public safety, need to relate more to each other and learn to understand the visions and ideals that are behind those diverse views.

Deep Democracy involves openness to other individuals, groups and nations. It includes feelings, dreams, body symptoms, altered states of consciousness, synchronicities, and an awareness of signals, roles, and the structural dynamics of the interactions between the parties involved. Deep Democracy can only be effective if we live from the heart. As matter of fact the most fundamental forum is our own heart. Therefore, both as facilitator and as a human being, we need to learn to listen to our hearts.

Support of deeper dialogue has been around at least since Plato argued for the inclusion of women in public discourse, albeit only the female upper classes. Unfortunately for slaves and foreigners, Plato's thinking didn't extend to include them. Nevertheless, he planted a cultural seed that needed another twenty-five hundred years to sprout, one which is only now coming to fruition in culturally creative and humanitarian ways.

At its most basic manifestation, Deep Democracy, refers to an openness towards the views of other people, groups, creeds and nations. It also embraces an openness to emotions and personal experiences, which tend to get excluded from conflict and rational public discourse. As Buckminster Fuller said, "We need to support the intuitive wisdom and comprehensive informed-ness of each and every individual to ensure our continued fitness for survival as a species.

Deep Democracy can also be used as a fractal algorithm, equating trust and consent with network centrality. For example, such a humane form of government could only function, as it is meant to be, by listening and responding to the needs of its citizenry. An analogy can be made with the page ranking of internet connections, emails, etc. Within this humane governance, a social network optimistic action methodology is postulated to equate centrality with leadership ability. However, strange and point attractors other than trust and consent may also correlate with node centrality.

So, it is reasonable to postulate that, in essence, Deep Democracy equates with global maternal instincts in which the democratic government acts firstly as a caring parent that provides essential support for its family. The citizenry can then feel secure in experiencing an inner feeling of interconnectedness, not found in representational democratic systems. From a systems perspective, Deep Democracy is an open dynamic system springing from all diverse points of engagement where individuals and community come together. As such it demonstrates that the present Western style democratic government is a poor substitute that does not and cannot embody the true meaning of Democracy.

Chris Degenhardt (Science-Art author)

Chris Degenhardt is a researcher/editor for and colleague of the Science-art Research Centre of Australia. He is the author of a play called 'Democracy on Trial - the verdict' It can be obtained from his web site http://www.degsart.com He is also the author of 'Feminine Ethics in the New Measure of Humanity' which was launched in 2008 at the Byron Bay Writers Festival. It is a review and update of Dr. George Cockburn's 'Bioaesthetics' It is published by the Science-Art Centre http://www.science-art.com.au

READ MORE - Serious Defects in Modern Democracy 4 - Deep Democracy

Distance Learning Degree Programs

A distance learning degree program offers online educational opportunities for those students that cannot attend a traditional college. This course of study is gaining in popularity as consumers are discovering the benefits of an online education. Distance learning degree programs can enable anyone to earn a college degree, from a two-year associates degree, to a bachelor's, a master's, or even a doctorate. As colleges are discovering the effectiveness and efficiency of these courses, distance learning is gaining credence with prospective students as well.

These courses have developed from mail-order educations to fully accredited college and university outreach programs. Through the use of a personal computer, a student can study and earn certification in one of many subject areas from the privacy and convenience of home, to the confines of an office work space, or even in a public library or other area with available Internet access. The areas for educational interest in a distance learning degree program are almost limitless. Some of the offered coursework from a quick scan on the Internet showed distance learning degree programs in business, education, arts and humanities, engineering, law and criminal justice, science, social science, and technology, just to name a few.

Schools offer over three hundred different areas of learning resources over the Internet. A person can earn an online education, attend general online courses, get computer training, and take personal development courses all through distance learning degree programs. If someone wants to earn an MBA, enroll in continuing education courses, enter career training or a certificate program, they can do so through a distance learning degree program. Almost every religion offers this option, so if a student is interested in becoming a pastor or church worker, they can do so.

An education in this matter is available in almost every nation in the world and in almost every language. Just as with regular college or university attendance, financial aid is available through the different schools and through the federal government. If a person qualifies, they can receive grants from the government so that the distance learning degree programs are totally free. If someone is interested in attending college and earning an education, but never found the right time, a distance learning degree program can enable them to do so. "And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land." (Exodus 9:5)

Online Economics Degree - The Job Opportunities It Opens Up

Monday, October 11, 2010

If you are interested in the way people choose to use certain resources in order to produce various goods as well as services, then the best program to take is an online economics degree. The work of an economist varies depending on the sector he is working on.

Generally, they are into research and into the analysis of economics. They can work in finance and government organizations as well as in academics. They conduct research on certain issues like energy costs, employment levels, business cycles, inflation, exchange rates, taxes and interest rates.

Economists are trained to think critically and analytically in order to solve complex problems. It is for this reason that universities and institutions offering an online Economics degree program aim to prepare their students for high paying positions either in government or business sectors.

Matter of fact, after receiving education and training from an accredited online school, you can land in a job in various facets of the business world such as in mining, insurance, banking, retailing and manufacturing.

For those who want to enter into a master's degree program in Business Administration, an Economics degree is one of the best majors to consider. This is because an economics degree can help you develop certain skills which business schools are looking for. Furthermore, a degree in Economics is considered as one of the most ideal preparations for law school.

A career in economics has gone a long way throughout the years. These days, at a time of economic globalization, small to large firms continuously hire economists. Most large firms have large divisions that are dedicated for economic research. For smaller firms, they hire economists for planning, forecasting and finance.

An online Economics degree has become a global phenomenon with its rising popularity. Many people now see economics as the most suitable field in finding a promising career with good pay and security. You can even specialize in certain areas of economics. This includes industrial economics, financial economics, labor economics, international economics, public finance economics and from microeconomics to macroeconomics.

Industrial economics deal with the study of economics on specific industries while looking at the number of monopolies, competitors as well as market decisions of firms. Financial economics is the study of changing interest rates. International economics also look into exchange rates but they also study international markets and tariffs.

Labor economics focus on the determination of wages as well as the demand & supply of labor. When it comes to public finance, it is the study of how the government affects the economy such as with budget deficits, tax cuts and welfare policies. As for microeconomics and macroeconomics; microeconomics deals with the supply & demand for firms and individuals while macroeconomics focus on history trends which are for forecasting future inflation, unemployment and various other economic trends.

An online Economics degree can provide you with the knowledge as well as the training that can help you succeed in various related fields. It is different from online finance degree programs because it primarily focuses on monetary resources. This means, an economics degree program is more focused on diverse resources like land, labor, raw materials and machinery. When you graduate, the coursework narrows down to specific areas of economics.

With a bachelor's degree, you can land in entry level positions such as administrative, sales and research assistant positions for consulting firms, research organizations or government sectors. However, with a master's degree, you can qualify for administrative and research positions. For higher economics positions, you would need a PhD. Thus, the career training would involve econometrics, computer science, macroeconomics, history of economic thought, microeconomics, statistics, sampling theory and survey design as well as mathematics & statistics.

The thing is - with a background in economics, there are more job opportunities. Economists with bachelor degrees are paid $36,000++ per year as a starting rate. Those with master's degrees usually get paid around $44,000++ annually as a starting offer while PhD's are mostly offered with $53,000++ a year.

If you don't get a job in scientific, management and even technical consulting services after graduating from an online Economics degree program, there are other options such as being a financial analyst, market analyst, purchasing manager or public policy consultant. Then again, with a specialized knowledge in any secondary area you will most likely get the best career opportunities.

Today many Java developers, software engineers and programmers are working in various international projects in India and outside. They are being paid very good salary along with many other lucrative perks. Therefore, software courses have become so hit among young individuals as they also provide them a good chance to work outside their country and gain global experience. As a developer or programmer you are being paid a good salary package, your experience in the field also plays an important role in getting you a job and pay hike.

These software courses have one or two year diploma courses from private computer institutes. Today you could easily find many computer training institutes in Delhi and other parts of India which also provide diploma or certification course in software as well. However, not all of them are reliable and reputed. If you want to excel in software field it is advisable to opt for the course from a well known computer institute only

- NIIT,
- Aptech
- High Technologies Solutions
- Aftech
- DICS, New-Delhi
- Baluja Labs
- DUCAT

The above mentioned names are some of the reputed computer institutes in Delhi. These institutes have qualified teaching staff with well equipped computer laboratories. Many of them also provide one year job assistance to their students. The course fees of different software courses vary from each other. The basic requirement for any software course is 10+2 or graduation in addition with this your computer knowledge is also being checked.

The well known software companies of India- IBM, Microsoft, Accenture, INTEL, TCS, and HCL etc. All these companies have great strength of Java developers, DOT NET experts, and programmers working at their different projects.

Advance Your Career With a Masters Degree

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Are you someone who wants to get ahead in your career? Do you want to get that edge that will help you get ahead of everybody else and get you into that position that you've always wanted? There are many ways to achieve your career goals but none are as rewarding and as valuable as getting a masters degree. If you look at the sheer volume of people who are currently out of work with normal Bachelor degrees, then its not hard to see that the bar has been raised.

There is no doubt that a tertiary education is becoming more important in an competitive job market. Just competing with all the other applicants who has exactly the same qualification as you can be very tough. You need something that sets you apart and getting a masters degree may well do that for you. Less than 10% of all graduates proceed to extend their education and less than 10% actually get a masters degree or a doctors degree (this excludes MD's). By simply furthering your studies you can really set yourself apart.

Getting a masters degree is also not just about getting ahead from the pack. Its also about specializing and really honing in on a specific area in your field. We've all heard it before but the world is becoming much more specialized and the need for experts in particular fields are increasing. A masters degree will enable you to specialize and to become more of an expert in something that you actually like doing.

Lastly, when prospective (and even current) employers see a masters degree on your resume it instantly changes their perspective of you. It really says a lot out you beyond the mere qualification. It speaks volumes of your enthusiasm, your ability and your general approach to your career.

Not only will a masters set you apart from everybody else, it will help you to reach levels in your career that won't be possible with a bachelor's degree. Why not look into it. It may just be that missing piece that you've been looking for. With numerous new online degrees available you don't even have to go back to school full time. You can do it for much cheaper, at your own pace and even get a very specific degree from international schools. I would encourage you to look into online schools. There are some great educational opportunities out there.

How to Study Abroad in Europe

Monday, October 4, 2010

Are you thinking of studying abroad in Europe but don't know how to start? Nowadays, earning your degree or part of it abroad has become a vital tool for students to grow personally and professionally. With over 5,400 institutions, a cohesive higher education policy, a safe environment, and an amazing cultural and historical heritage, Europe has a lot to offer you as a student. On this article, I explain the steps you should follow to come study in Europe and give you some pieces of advice on the essential factors to consider when preparing your foreign study experience in Europe.

* STEP 1: Have you already started your higher education studies? There's a great difference between applying for studies abroad in Europe as a first-year student and moving from a university or college from another country: - If you are not enrolled at any higher education institution in your home country and would like to study as an undergraduate student in Europe, you may need to prove you have successfully passed your upper secondary school / high school studies and your school leaving examination. If you passed the leaving examination and your home country signed the Lisbon Convention or have a reciprocal agreement with the country in Europe where you will be studying, you might be exempted from taking the examination again. To check the validity of your previous studies at high school to continue to higher education studies, you should contact either the university or college of your interest or the ministry of education of the country where you will be studying. Which one you will have to contact vary depending on the country in Europe. - If you are already studying at university or college in your home country and would like to study abroad in Europe, you may continue reading the step #2.

* STEP 2: Decide whether you will be an exchange or a free mover student. If you would like to study your entire degree in Europe, coming as a free mover student might be the most appropriate option for you. If you would just like to study abroad in Europe for a specific period of time, participating in an exchange program between your current school and its counterpart in Europe might be the best approach. It is important your firstly evaluate your status as a student, as it will determine how to apply for studies abroad in Europe. Among the differences between being an exchange or a free mover student in Europe, I would mention these ones: - Exchange students submit their applications through their coordinator at their home school, while free movers must arrange all the documentation by themselves. - As an exchange student, you will be charged moderate or no tuition fees at all, while you will have to pay full tuition and registration fees as a free mover student. - Keep in mind that if you intend to return to your home school, you should make sure you agree in written with your teachers what courses you studied abroad will be recognized once you are back. This is usually done through a document called "Learning agreement". - In general, exchange students follow different application deadlines than the usual dates.

* STEP 3: Find a school that best meets your academic profile and personal expectations. This is the most time-consuming part of the process of organizing your foreign study experience in Europe. When selecting a school in Europe, you should consider factors such as: - The language of instruction: in Europe, you can study in many languages, such as English, Spanish, French, German or Italian, just to mention a few of them. Don't be afraid and take the chance to improve your foreign language skills. Many schools in Europe offer languages courses addressed to their international students. So you may be able to earn a degree while learning or improving your foreign language skills. In fact, I studied Swedish while earning my degree. The language of instruction of my lectures was Swedish! It might seem hard in the beginning, but the result is truly rewarding. - Social activities: does your school offer activities to get you socially integrated in the campus life? It's not just about having fun, but also about learning more about the country where you will be living in and getting to know other people who are in the same situation as you. You will even make very good friends! - Accommodation offer: does your school provide you with accommodation at the campus or help you find a place to stay? You should look for an accommodation option before coming to Europe. - Career opportunities: think of the possibilities available for you after you finish your studies at the school you chose. Do they also help you with career development?

* STEP 4: Take the admission tests. This might not always be the case but, for certain competitive study programs, students are required to pass an admission test. The results you obtain at those tests will determine whether you will finally be admitted. In the event you are applying for studies related for fine arts, you may also be required to pass aptitude tests.

* STEP 5: Prepare your student visa and residence permit. Once you have selected your school and have been admitted to the study program of your choice, you may initiate the process of applying for a student visa or residence permit. Students from certain countries or planning to stay in Europe for a period of time longer than 90 days, will have to apply for a Schengen Visa and/or a residence permit.

Usually the application for a residence permit and a Schengen Visa is carry out through the embassy or consulate in your home country, where you can also address any questions you may have.
